Maybe I just don't understand politics... perhaps that's my problem. But so many things I hear about and read about absolutely baffle me, and I don't understand how there can possibly NOT be an enormous public outcry

We have "Amen" in Judaism too. Shalom just means hello, goodbye, or peace... but I appreciate the cultural sensitivity. :)

If I lived in California, your governor's plan would without a doubt put me out of a job. :o(

Yeah, I have a friend who lost his job because of the stupid plan. He can stay on through this semester and the summer, and then he's hoping to be rehired, which they're allowed to do. Otherwise, he's fortunate enough to have a savings account that will allow him a bit of a cushion in looking for something else. But honestly, so dumb...
