KakaSaku Fanmix: Playing the Game

Mar 30, 2013 06:29

This is a fanmix created for my Naruto fanfiction, Playing the Game.

The album follows the emotional journeys of the two main characters. Like the story, it toggles between Sakura and Kakashi's points of view. (Also like the story, it is long.)

The fanmix can be accessed in multiple ways. The most obvious is in the cut below, which contains a titular link to the full lyrics, a lyric snippet, and an embedded YouTube video for all 24 songs. Songs about Kakashi and/or from his perspective will be in blue (odd numbers) and Sakura's will be in red (even numbers).

I have also compiled a playlist on YouTube, though you may have to click out due to SME restrictions. (I did my best, even uploading my own videos to try and get around this -- the first time you listen, at least, everything should play.)

The full album is also available for DOWNLOAD HERE.

Whichever way you choose to listen, you might want to glance at the cut below to see which parts of the lyrics I have chosen to especially emphasize. (All of the lyrics for each song are relevant, though, or I wouldn't have chosen them.) Looking at them all together under the cut may also help you see the overall picture.

I hope you enjoy it, even if just for the music! I tried to make it a logical musical journey as well, with variety but not so much it felt schizophrenic. I have disparate music tastes, so that was a bit of a challenge. Chances are, you'll hear some things you knew and some things you've never heard before. I can't guarantee it will be your cup of tea, but I did go for more universally appealing things in general.

Just as a warning, it takes almost 2 hours to listen in one sitting, though you don't have to do that, of course.

Happy listening!

1. Wake Up -- Arcade Fire

With my lightning bolts a-glowing

I can see where I am going to be

When the reaper he reaches and touches my hand.

2. Mad World -- Gary Jules

And I find it kind of funny

I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which I'm dying

Are the best I've ever had

3. Procession -- The Duke Spirit

You live like you're leading a procession

You talk like you're bored of making decisions
...

You're the spinning wheel of the winning field

4. I Will -- Brandi Carlile

You can never be there for me in the end

But I will do the right thing
I will, I will, I will
I will, I will, I will

I don't think you ever learned a thing from me
But I'm sure that you want me to learn from you
And you've drawn heavy-handed lines around morality

About yourself and I don't share your point of view

5. Back 2 Good -- Matchbox 20

And I couldn't tell why everyone here

Was doin' me like they do
But I'm sorry now and I don't know how

To get it back to good

6. Wasted -- Brandi Carlile

Such a classic waste of cool

So afraid to break the rules in all the wrong places

image Click to view

7. Crystalised -- The Xx

Placid as I melt into the sea

(Things have gotten closer to the sun)
I wish the tide would take me over
(And I've done things in small doses)
I've been down onto my knees
(So don't think that I'm pushing you away)
And you just keep on getting closer

(When you're the one that I've kept closest)

8. Roll Away Your Stone -- Mumford and Sons

Roll away your stone, I'll roll away mine

Together we can see what we will find
Don't leave me alone at this time
For I am afraid of what I will discover inside
...
Darkness is a harsh term don't you think?

And yet it dominates the things I see

image Click to view

9. Falling Slowly -- Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova

Falling slowly, eyes that know me

And I can't go back
And moods that take me and erase me
And I'm painted black
Well you have suffered enough
And warred with yourself

It's time that you won

image Click to view

10. Hazy -- Rosi Golan feat. William Fitzsimmons

I watched you sleeping quietly in my bed

You don't know this now but
There's some things that need to be said
And it's all that I can hear

It's more than I can bear

image Click to view

11. Blank White Page -- Mumford and Sons

Can you lie next to her

And give her your heart, your heart
As well as your body?
And can you lie next to her
And confess your love, your love
As well as your folly?
And can you kneel before the king

And say I'm clean, I'm clean?

12. The Scientist -- Coldplay

Nobody said it was easy

It's such a shame for us to part
Nobody said it was easy
No one ever said it would be this hard
Oh, take me back to the start

I was just guessing at numbers and figures
Pulling the puzzles apart
Questions of science, science and progress

Don't speak as loud as my heart

13. Here Is Gone -- Goo Goo Dolls

I'm not the one who broke you

I'm not the one you should fear
We've got to move you, darling
I thought I lost you somewhere
But you were never really ever there at all

And I want to get free
Talk to me
I can feel you falling
And I wanted to be
All you need
Somehow here is gone

And I don't need a fall out
Of all the past that's here between us
And I'm not holding on

And all your lies weren't enough to keep me here

14. Cannonball -- Brandi Carlile

There's a man all alone

Telling me his friends are gone
That they've died and flown away
So I told him he was wrong
That you friends are never gone
If you look to the sky and pray

Bright lights like white lightning
Who shot me down
...
I was born when I met you
Now I'm dying to forget you

And that is what I know

15. Black on Black II -- Heart

They say that opposites attract like right and wrong

Black on black

Some things seem so sacred
Like a loaded question, the power of suggestion
Like the face of danger, the kindness of a stranger
Like a Judas Kiss, like pleasure and a little pain
Immaculate seduction, absolute corruption

Ice and fire counteract no turning back like black on black

16. Ignorance -- Paramore

You treat me just like another stranger

Well it's nice to meet you, sir
I guess I'll go
I best be on my way out

Ignorance is your new best friend
Ignorance is your new best friend

This is the best thing that could've happened
Any longer and I wouldn't have made it
It's not a war no, it's not a rapture
I'm just a person but you can't take it
The same tricks that, that once fooled me
They won't get you anywhere
I'm not the same kid from your memory

Well now I can fend for myself

17. More than Life -- Whitley

Belief in the breeze,

The smoky morning haze.
The sun on her face,
and the touch of lovers' hands.
The pain that comes today,
Is here, then goes away.

And we are homeward bound,
And I,

I want this more than life.

18. Curious -- Holly Brook

The things that we don't comprehend

Are laughing at my mind again

I think that I think too hard
And I don't give enough credit to my heart
...
Portraits of your loved ones
Are more than what you see
All the elements they capture

Are more to you than me

image Click to view

19. Wicked Game -- Phillip Phillips

The world was on fire and no-one could save me but you

It's strange what desire will make foolish people do
No, I'd never dreamed that I'd meet somebody like you
And I'd never dreamed that I'd lose somebody like you

No, I don't wanna fall in love, no
No, I don't wanna fall in love
This world will break your heart
Nobody's falling in love

What a wicked game to play, to make me feel this way

What a wicked thing to do, to let me dream of you

image Click to view

20. Arms -- Christina Perri

The world is coming down on me and I can't find a reason to be loved

I never want to leave you but I can't make you bleed if I'm alone

You put your arms around me

And I believe that it's easier for you to let me go...

image Click to view

21. Battles -- Hudson Taylor

I will lift her love and I'll break your spirit

I will dig a hole and I'll throw you in it
Only time will tell if we're all just cynics on the run,
If we're all just cynics come undone

I was losing, now we're drawing
And I'm not afraid to draw my blood
I'm not backing down so I'd surrender 'cause you should
And face the truth

You raise the flag, I'll tear it down.

22. Life is Short -- Butterfly Boucher

Oh, I am young but I have aged

Waited long to seize the day
All things said and plenty done

Oh, I am young but I have a past
Traveled far to find the start
Yes, I am scared and I've been burnt

But life is short

image Click to view

23. Young Folk -- Peter Bjorn and John

Usually when things has gone this far, people tend to disappear

No one will surprise me unless you do
I can tell there's something goin' on, hours seems to disappear

Everyone is leaving, I'm still with you

image Click to view

24. Just Be -- Paloma Faith

I was born thinking

It would all be dreamy
But I know that I wouldn't be happy that way
You wear me out with frustration and heartache and anger
But we wait for the wave just to wash it away

Don't say nothing
Just sit next to me
Don't say nothing
Shhh

Just be, just be, just be.
