I've always wondered what it would take for Dean to leave. It seemed unfair to the character to assume that he never would, that Dean would just lump it even if things got really bad. Everyone has a breaking point and in a few words you captured that beautifully: the lies, the growing emotional distance between Sam and Dean, even Ruby's presence as a contributing factor. Very well written!

(You wouldn't by chance ever consider a sequel?)

I think when it would reach a point that the situation outweighed his feeling of responsibility or that feeling of responsibility lessened, somehow, he could leave, particularly after some of Sam's shit. Understandable shit, true, but still...

And the sequel was actually written prior to this. *coughs*
