KH2 fic: 'Something' Series I - Steel and Sparks

So I finally finished the fic that prompted my year-long writer's block. Hooray and TAKE THAT, MOTHAFUCKA. It's shorter than I hoped, but fuck it all to hell, I don't care, it's fucking WRITTEN.

Yes, I curse a lot when I'm happy. Deal with this. XD

Wow!! You blew me away! The battle scenes were excellent- it's an area where I struggle, so I tend to watch more closely when I read fics featuring them. They never got old or repetitive, and kept me interested, and I never had trouble figuring out what was going on (squees of joy at the whole lying-on-each-other part aside, haha). I think your Cloud voice is particularly good; I mean, really, really good, like you can see inside his head. I'm looking forward to more of this! :)

Oh, thank you so much! I was afraid it all was a little too action-heavy, so it relieves me greatly that it reads well!

And, *squirmcoughblush* well, who doesn't like a side of fanservice with your sweaty mercenaries? 8D

Cloud's voice is the only one I've managed to pull off for months - it's good to know that at least it's a good Cloud voice.

I hope to continue this series soon enough ^^~ Thanks a million once more!

<3~~~~~~ Thank you so much! Cloud is the only muse who's been talking to me lately, but at least our communication flows nicely ^^~

I hope to post more of this series soon-ish ^^~ Thanks again!

This is the first KH2 fic I've read in a while that I've actually read, taken the time to read every word and absorb it--and it's fantastic. I'm extremely jealous of the way you can describe battle, not just the mechanics of it, but the way it's nearly the only thing Cloud knows how to relate to. You've shown that Cloud's having conflict with himself, while he's having more unspoken conflict with Leon, while he's having physical conflict with these monsters. And it never seems messy and confusing!

I like the way that every bit of the story seems plausible. Every feeling and thought Cloud has towards other people or during battle is just so real, like the description of his adrenaline, or 'tighter the thin, desperation-generated relations that formed the Restoration Committee in the first place.' The game never really reveals anything about the back story of the Restoration Committee, and we get this idea that everyone is so happy and working towards a greater thing---and they are, it's just, it can't be as hopeful as we think ( ... )

Thank you very, very, VERY much. I mean it. I was slightly insecure about the amount of battle scenes and their format, so it makes me extremely happy to know they came out properly. ^^~ I have this tendency of meshing thought and feeling with action, and I was afraid it might become confusing during battle.

Again, thanks a bunch, and I hope to post the next part pretty soon.
BTW, well, "everybody and their mom" is something that I say regularly. It's part of my usual pattern of speech. XD

Damn. That was incredible. The intensity was astounding, and I really liked how you wrote their relationship-- they don't 'like' each other, because they realize that there's something there, they can both feel it, but don't want to acknowledge it, and props on the realization happening because they got knocked together during battle. I was amused at the wording you used-- KO, boss Heartless... I dunno how I feel about that, since those are certainly video game terms, and you know, to Leon and Cloud, they're not in a video game. But anyway, that's just my thought. Writing style-- definitely clear, descriptive, very intense, I really enjoyed reading this. Awesome job doing a battle scene. <3 You're continuing this? Characterization's excellent too. <3

Thank so much for commenting! ^^~ Actually, the whole series will be centered precisely on that - they feel there's something growing but since they are emotional numbskulls they don't know how to deal with it.

I was a little doubtful about describing it like this, but I sincerely didn't find better ways to make a diference from Boss Heartless from the smaller, mash-X-until-you-level-up enemies ^^' Let's just imagine they've nicknamed the big ones like this, okay? XD
Concerning "KO", I didn't think it would be too distracting, since it's just a shortening for knocked out, and I think it's a valid description for a heavily wounded person, video game or not. Do think that if I substituted the shortening for "knocked out" in full, it would give a less 4th-wall-breakage feeling?

Thank you very much once more, and I hope to post the next part soon enough.

XD Well, it's really your choice, because it's not like the terms bothered me, they just... amused me, because it reminded me of us talking about the game. It's not that big a deal, so if that feels natural to use, it works well enough in this fandom to use the actual video game terms.

And that's how I see Cloud and Leon also-- emotionally blind XD

I'm sorry - work caught up with me badly at the beginning of the year, and Leon's been acting like a BITCH for the second installment of Something Series. However, it's halfway done and should be posted before the month is over. I'm so sorry for the wait! I didn't plan for it to take me so long!
