Call it some silly musing, Luceti, but I'm curious. What do you people do when you need to find hope? Regardless of whatever reason you seem to have lost hope in the first place - this place alone has a lot of reasons - how did you get it back? Are you even able to do it?

[Buffy's actually also in the bar at the moment, working; however, she scribbles down her response, unaware that the asker is just down the counter from her.]

The people around me.

[Myuria notices this, but thinks her question is best asked in person rather than over the journals.]

What if they aren't around?

[Buffy looks up at the voice, initially wondering if it was a patron looking for another drink. Soon, though, she connects two and two.

She walks over.]

They might not be here, but there's people back home to feel hopeful for, right?

[Myuria offers a polite smile.]

I... think so. A few of them are probably going merrily on their way regardless of what's happening here. [The most important ones to her are neither here nor there.]

[He had a feeling you'd be here, Myuria. Don't think he hasn't seen you moping around with Draco gone, and since you weren't at home, there were only a few likely places you'd be.

He won't say anything as he walks up and takes a seat next to Myuria at the bar. If she wants to talk to him, she will. In the meantime, he'll just order himself a Romulan Ale (only one; he learned his lesson after his last run-in with that stuff) and sip at it in silence.]

[She has not moped, she has gracefully carried her gloom! Or so she thinks. Her teasing is not nearly as effective, though.

She'll look up at him from her martini and take a quick glance at his drink. Though she may not show it, she's pleased that he's there.]

Didn't see you as much of the drinking type.

[And by "gracefully carried" she obviously means "walked around with it hanging over her head like a dark cloud." Arumat is not that oblivious to emotions, even though he might suppress his own.]

I'm not, but it's better than rotting away doing nothing.

[She totally blames the tranquilizer she got hit with when she tried chasing after the droids.]

I suppose I can agree with that.

I like to remind myself of what I find beautiful. Things that make me happy.

What you find beautiful?

Because it's something you can keep looking forward to. And maybe something you can protect now, too.

I like that. There are a lot of beautiful things in the world.

[This is...a very good question.]

I just remember everything at home that matters to me.

[No matter how hopeless he feels in this place, he cannot give up on getting home to his beloved otters.]

And you just know that you'll get back there?

I certainly won't if I give up.

Hope is just a clever way of deluding yourself into working for a desirable outcome. It's only as real as it is in your head. So just fake it and you'll be fine.

Even if it might not be necessary to have it at all?

If you don't need it, don't bother.
