I can't seem to stop touching my new yarn. I bought some Cherry Tree Hill Sockitome in the limited edition Wool in the Woods lottery colors. Ohmygawd, it's so pretty and so soft. I don't think I've knit myself merino socks before... It's handpainted in deep purple, navy (black where those meet), dark green and a burgundy-purple. I had intended on ( Read more... )

I'm about a light year from being an expert on this, but the Merino/Possum mixture they use here in NZ is the softest wool mix I've ever fondled - and you're helping the enviroment by buying it! (the possums are destroying the native bush)

On a similar vein, I helped shear a sheep yesterday for the first time - not too hard, although the farmer had it all set up for us.

I don't think the possums are alive by the time their fur is removed though - they'd be a bugger to shear!

I've heard about that possum yarn - and I'm quite sure that the possums in NZ are much different animals than the nasty possums we have in America!

They are totally different.

I think I need to check out possum yarn though.

I'm knitting socks at the moment, too...mainly because whie I have an overwhelming need to knit, it's really too hot at the moment to bear the feeling of anything heavy on my lap - therefore, socks are doing it for me right now.

Right now, I'm using a really weird fuzzy yarn, but it's soft, and squishy and will be totally perfect by the time my winter rolls back around.
