Princess and the pea | Jonghyun x Onew | PG | Fluff

Camping for a week in summer had always been the tradition in their school. It’s compulsory for everyone because this is the time when everyone really bonded. But this year was going to be different than usual. This year, instead of sleeping in the standard tent, they were all going to be bunking in lodges.

“Shit. Just how big is the place that it can accommodate us all?” Minho said with a huge smile. Jinki chuckled seeing his excited dongsaeng. The athletic boy really loves the outdoor unlike Kibum who was looking surly with arms crossed tightly across his chest.

“So what if it’s big? There still won’t be air-conditioning. Ugh! I’m going to end up with a major break out because of this heat!” he grumbled waving a black laced fan vigorously.

“Well at least we get to sleep in beds,” Jinki offered trying to lighten Kibum up. The boy stop fanning looking suddenly horrified and tossed his fan away which unfortunately hit Minho who was sitting beside him.

“Ugh! Bed bugs! Oh my God! Did I bring my spray and insect repellent? Crap! I’m going to die!” He whined as he rummaged through his bag. Jinki laughed while Minho rolled his eyes catching the frantic boy’s hand.

“Okay drama queen you can stop that. You shoved them in my bag earlier because it won’t fit into yours remember? I don’t get why you have to bring so many clothes? We’re only going to be here for a week,” Minho complained.

“Thank God,”Kibum said fervently. “And shut up Min. I don’t want to be stinking of sweat just because I don’t have a change of clothes,” he said staring significantly at Minho’s rather small luggage.

“Hey, I’m going bare bodied,” he explained with a smug grin. Well that’s going to be a sight Jinki thought and he couldn’t help the little shrewd smile climbing his lips when Kibum quirked an eyebrow trying to be disinterested and not be affected by what had been said. The attraction between his two dongsaengs was palpable that he often wonders why they weren’t together already.

The bus rolled to a stop in the midst of his musings and he filed out of the bus with the rest. He was greeted with a picturesque scene. The surroundings were clean and it wasn’t too warm with a breeze blowing from the north carrying an earthy scent with it. It’s a bit secluded because of the woods but the peacefulness made up for it, not to mention the fresh air that Seoul was missing. He just knew that he was going to enjoy it here.

“You have got to be kidding me!” The three boys looked around to a boy recently transferred to their school and a senior like Jinki. Currently he’s having an argument with a teacher in-charge.

“I had specifically ordered for my own room and now you’re telling me that I have to share?” he raged. Jinki stared dumbfounded.

“The fuck does he thinks he is?” Kibum said incredulously.

“A bloody rich kid,” Minho supplied. Don’t they all know it; Kim Jonghyun had been chauffeured around in a limo to and back ever since he started schooling and he’s the only one who got off sporting a blond hair. It just showed how much the school sucked up to the Kim family.

“Well, let’s look at it this way. Without them, we wouldn’t get to stay in a lodge for this year’s trip,” Jinki reasoned, the boys still watching the argument with apparent amusement.

“My words are final Jonghyun,” the teacher said unyielding and started looking around. “You will be bunking with Lee Jinki.”

“Lee Jinki? Who’s Lee Jinki?” Jonghyun grounded unpleasantly. Me he thought rather unwilling to own up, his amusement evaporating that quickly.

“Oh hell no!” Kibum cried appalled. “He’s going to be in our team?”

“I’m not sure. We get shuffle every year,” Jinki replied. Suddenly the week ahead of him looked really bleak.

“But one thing’s for sure, he’s bound to be in hyung’s team,” Minho said and Kibum smacked his arm. “Don’t jinx him! Damn it! They found us.”

True enough, the teacher came striding towards them with a very disgruntled Jonghyun in tow.

“There you are,” he said relieved. “Please take him off my hands. He’s your responsibility now,” with that said the teacher stalked away herding the first years to a large notice board right by the entrance of the campsite. Kibum narrowed his eyes at the new arrival and Jinki had a feeling that he was about to be rude to the sullen boy who was glaring at them all.

“Don’t start Key,” Minho warned and turned to Jonghyun. “I’m Minho and this is Kibum. Nice to meet you,” he said holding out a hand to him for a shake. But Jonghyun just stood stock still looking unimpressed at the stretched hand. This nettled Kibum further.

Sensing trouble brewing, Minho retracted his hand and dragged Kibum away, humouring the feisty boy with his extremely loud rant. Jinki cringed at the crude names which Kibum hurled and he smiled apologetically to the blond.

“Sorry about that,” he said awkwardly. “I’m Lee Jinki - uh, you probably know that already.”

The blond gave him the most insolent once over. What is up with this kid?

“Yeah, whatever,” Jonghyun finally said, storming after the two. Jinki sighed. Let the suck fest begin.

XxX

As it turned out, he was separated from his friends and like Minho had predicted, he did get stuck with Jonghyun. He could have totally ignored the boy if he chose to since there were others in his group whom he personally knew. But Jonghyun stayed faithfully by his side citing that he was Jinki’s responsibility. That annoyed him to no end and Jinki wasn’t the type to get angry. He did get a laugh out of him however when Jonghyun’s kayak capsized and the sight of him frantically trashing about in the lake was freaking hilarious.

So when the huge lodge welcomed them with the knowledge of sleeping in a decent bed, Jinki was extremely glad that the day was over. After a quick refreshing shower (this was after waiting half hour for Jonghyun) he was all ready to zonk out to dream land, flopping into the fluffy bed and switched off the bedside lamp.

Creak.

Creak, creak.

Creak, creak, creak.

“God! Jonghyun go to sleep already!” Jinki snapped switching on the table lamp and flooded the room with a dimly glow. The boy sat up riffling his hair back with frustration.

“The bed is uncomfortable. Switch with me,” he ordered. Jinki gritted his teeth wanting to protest but stomped over to Jonghyun anyway. He figured that it would be much faster to just change than spend the night arguing. He kicked the blanket away and lay on the warm bed muttering quietly waiting for the boy to settle down so he could get to sleep. But it didn’t happen.

“What are you doing?” Jinki hissed starting to be very annoyed now watching the boy shift here and that way in the bed.

“How can they call this a bed? It’s damn hard and lumpy!” Jonghyun complained and shot off glaring at the innocent furniture. “There must be something under the mattress.”

Jinki stared amused. This somehow reminded him of a fairy tale his mum used to tell at bedtime. “What are you? Princess and the pea?”

“What?” the blond said confused.

Jinki sighed wearily pulling himself to sit. “You don’t know that story?”

The ruffled boy blinked owlishly back at him. Well apparently not and hugged his legs to his chest. How is the bed hard? This is super comfy he thought then focused on the blond.

“It’s about this prince who wanted to marry a princess and he travelled all over the world to find her. But he wasn’t sure that the ones he found were a true princess so he went back home. Then one stormy night came a loud knocking at the city gate so the King went out to open it - ”

“Why would the king open it? That’s just stupid. He could have gotten the guards to do it,” Jonghyun interrupted.

“Hey, I wasn’t the one who wrote the story,” Jinki shrugged and continued where he had left off.

“So at the gate there stood a woman who claimed to be a princess but they didn’t believe her since she looked - well, a mess because of the rain but the queen decided to give her a chance. She prepared the room herself, taking all the bedding from the bed and placed a pea at the bottom. She then took twenty mattresses and laid them on the pea adding twenty eight eiderdowns on it. The next morning the queen asked her if she had a good sleep and the princess said that she had a terrible night. She told them that the mattress was hard to sleep on like there was something under it. The King, the Queen and the Prince rejoiced at this because now they knew that she’s a true princess because she had felt the pea under all the mattresses and the prince married the princess with a predictable happily ever after.”

“Feeling sleepy now?” Jinki asked after he finished telling the tale.

“That was supposed to put me to sleep?” Jonghyun said incredulous, an eyebrow shooting under his bangs.

“Yeah, I’m sleepy already. See, I’m yawning,” he replied then faking a huge yawn. The blond gave him a scathing smile.

“That wasn’t even a proper story and by the way, thanks for the compliment,” he said and actually lifted the mattress up to see if there was anything hidden there.

“What compliment?” It was Jinki’s turn to be confused. The boy peeked over his shoulder and flashed him a grin.

“You just implied that I’m a prince and I am a prince babe.”

“Prince.” Unbelievable. He thought rather highly of himself didn’t he?

“Of course. Can’t be a princess can I?” Jonghyun said offhandedly and Jinki shook his head.

“You’re obnoxious that’s what you are,” he muttered laying back down and face the wall. The room grew dark after a moment and silence filled between them. Finally, he was going to get some sleeping done and happily closed his eyes letting the sounds of crickets lull him to sleep. But something else was niggling at the back of his mind and realization dawned on him.

“Hey! I’m not a b - What are you doing?” Jonghyun had slipped into his bed while he complained.

“I think that my comfort is your responsibility too,” he replied wounding an arm around his torso.

“I think not,” Jinki scoffed trying to pry his hand from around him. “Come on Jonghyun! Get off my bed. It’s too small for the both of us. How is this even comfortable?”

“It is,” the blond said wrapping him tighter against his chest. “Now stop moving. You’ll make me fall.”

“Well I hope you do,” he said irately and honestly felt quite shock to feel Jonghyun’s lips against the back of his neck muffling his chuckles.

Kibum had always told him that he was defenceless and he always laughed it off because he had thought that his friend was overreacting. Only now did he believe it when a few silence after, the hand that had been idling across his abdomen started to roam his body. Shit. Did he just lick me?

“I swear to God that I’m going to scream Jonghyun,” he hissed alarmed clawing his nails into the hand that was venturing south. Jinki was flipped onto his back. His hands were now somehow caught above his head and body trapped under the blond. What little light that filtered through the blinds on the window showed a very devilish face.

“No you won’t,” Jonghyun whispered and he swooped in covering his mouth in a wet and rough kiss.

XxX

No he wouldn’t. That’s exactly what happened last night. He didn’t scream at all. Even the attempts of fighting off the kiss were half assed too drawn in by that intoxicating taste. Jinki blushed from anger and embarrassment. Regret was an understatement but what he was extremely ashamed of was the fact that he had enjoyed it.

He liked the feel of hot slick skin against skin. He was enamoured by those hands that mapped his body which had elicited such delicious sensations and having Jonghyun rutting against the crack of his butt while he jerked him of was nothing short of thrilling.

His lips parted unbidden at the memory and his heart started racing. Bad idea, he shouldn’t have thought about it. Except that he had to because Jinki wasn’t an impulsive person even though he might be clueless sometimes and defenceless like what Kibum had always told him.

How did it happen? He thought kneading his brows to chase away the images - No the question was why did it happen and sighed for nth time. It’s definitely physical and obviously not emotional Jinki thought bitterly tugging at the yellowing grasses around him.

“Hyung!” He looked up at Kibum waving at him. He waved back noticing how wet his two friends were and Minho was half naked like what he promised. Now why can’t I have muscles like that? and took the time admiring him as they approached.

“Out swimming this early in the morning?”

“Speak for yourself,” Minho grinned. “Had a good night?”

Jinki blushed biting the inside of his cheeks hard to prevent himself from saying anything stupid. That was an innocent question. There’s no need to get flustered and shrugged. He was however completely aware of Kibum’s sharp observing.

“Hello. Who’s this?” he asked changing the subject when he realized that there was another boy with them. Minho pulled the timid boy from skulking behind and hung a toned arm over him.

“Jinki hyung, meet first year Lee Taemin,” he introduced the boy and he pinked, smiling shyly revealing the nicest set of teeth he had ever seen.

“I’m his favourite hyung,” he then added which Kibum scoffed at. He shoved Minho’s arm from Taemin and draped his around the boy.

“Please, Taeminie likes me better,” he said turning to the boy. “Don’t you Taemin?”

“Yah! Don’t put the cutie in a spot,” Jinki grinned very much entertained by his friends.

“Who are you calling a cutie?”

He flinched at hearing the voice and the sudden pair of hands gripping his shoulders.

“Certainly not you,” Kibum scowled while Minho looked on with interest as Jonghyun settled behind and spooned Jinki against him.

“Yah - ” Minho began saying, a hand frozen in mid-air. Kibum and Taemin wore an identical look, their eyes widening comically and Jinki yelped at the stinging pain on the side of his neck.

“OW OW OW OW OW! JONGHYUN GET OFF!” he screeched clutching the blond head unsure of what to do. If he forcibly pushed Jonghyun away he might tear a chunk out of him. God, just the thought of it made him faint.

Then Jinki shuddered quite involuntarily when Jonghyun’s tongue caressed the part he had bitten, kissed it and drew away.

“What are you a vampire?” he said annoyed clamping a hand over the wet spot. He had doubtlessly left a mark.

“That’ll do too,” Jonghyun mused and added. “Make that a vampire prince. You told me that I’m a prince last night.”

“I did not!” he protested.

“Yes you did,” he insisted as he got up brushing the seat of his shorts. “And I’ve marked you so that makes you mine - ”

“I’m n - ”

“So you can’t call anyone cutie babe.”

“I’m not a babe!” Jinki yelled astounded watching his retreating back. “Yah!”

“He’s gone,” Minho who was the first to recover said and Kibum started sputtering while Taemin grinned, Jinki hearing his voice for the first time.

“Daebak.”

“No Taemin no!” Kibum shrieked horrified and rounded onto Jinki. “What the hell just happened?”

His eyes narrowed into slits and pointed an accusing finger at him. “You went and got defenceless didn’t you!”

Jinki cringed. “Uhh - ”

“Hey, lay off him,” Minho said with a frown marring his face. “It’s his life. He’ll handle it well enough.”

“I’m protecting him!”

“Uh guys,” Jinki scrambled up getting between the two but was physically removed from the spot, Minho pulling him behind his back in a protective gesture.

“Don’t turn him into you,” he growled and Kibum’s glares became icy.

“What’s that supposed to mean?”

“It means if you weren’t always on your guard I would have totally jump you!”

“What?” Kibum said taken aback and Taemin who had been watching the volley giggled.

“Really daebak.”

“No Taemin no!”

“You leave Taemin alone!”

Jinki sighed wearily and crouched down hanging his head between his knees. This was definitely going to be the longest week in his entire life.

“Hey babe!” he looked around and Jonghyun was there a few feet away with his hand stretched out to him “Let’s get some breakfast.”

Jinki stared contemplatively. Maybe it didn’t matter why it happened and maybe the week won’t be so bad after all. He left his arguing friends and let Jonghyun lead him to the canteen with their hands intertwined.

End….
