This fusion really, REALLY works. I don't mind telling you, the movie Starship Troopers was one of the biggest disappointments EVER, particularly when compared to the densely packed original novel. But this, Sam's attitude in it? It just works pefectly. Even the explanation for how Dean didn't kick up a fuss when postings separated them makes sense.

Thank you! I'll admit that I did enjoy the movie, but I enjoy a lot of mindless action movies and this was the same. There's no comparison with the novel. I did wonder whether people would buy the explanation for Dean being okay with being separated, those who haven't read the novel might not I think.

Oh, I could enjoy the movie for what it was... but it didn't hold a candle to the book.

You may be right about responses to Dean's being okay with the separation, but anyone who's read the book would agree with your interpretation - and I happen to think that EVERYONE should read Starship Troopers! :)

Wow. This was really well done. "Come on, you apes! You wanna live forever?" I've been a Heinlein fan since middle school and I just loved this. Especially since Sam in this fic reminds me of Rico. And I'm really glad you went with the book and not those god-awful movies.

P.S. One spelling error: it should be "court-martialed."

Thank you! It's quite honestly amazing to hear from someone who's a fan of the novel that I did well. When I started writing this, I was so worried that I wouldn't manage to catch the mood of Starship Troopers right, especially since I was writing in third person, as opposed to the novel's first person POV.

And thanks for the correction, I'll fix that right away.
