A week later and Kame has gotten better at locking the doors as soon as he slips into his car. It’s a lost cause though because Jin found keys to Kame’s car from somewhere and is, more often than not, already sitting in it when Kame tries to sneak out of work before Jin. He comforts himself by remembering that Jin has had a decade experience of skiving off work; Kame’s not doing badly for a person with a week’s practice.

Jin is a reading a magazine when Kame flops down beside him. He offers Kame a tray of doughnuts.

“What,” Kame says evenly despite the fact that Jin is eating in his car, “are you doing?”

“Saving money,” Jin says, tapping the magazine that, Kame realizes, is the issue where he’d been soaked with water and forced to talk about his ideal wife. “We’ll be able to buy our dream house with the money I save on gas. Hey,” he adds when Kame grits his teeth and pulls out of the parking space. “Do you really think you’ll be the dominant one in a relationship?”

It becomes such a frequent event that others take notice: Nakamaru smiles a little more, Koki scowls a little more, Ueda hands Kame cupcakes topped with poisonous looking sprinkles that Jin grabs the instant he sees them, saying, “Ooh, I love Ueda’s baking”. Kame suspects Ueda’s using Jin for a scientific experiment but doesn’t say anything because the less time Jin spends alive means the less time Jin spends in Kame’s car

I keep imagining how Kame would want to rip away those dolls the moment Jin's steps out of his car but can't really bring himself to do it because it's Jin who put them there. Their tiny nodding faces staring at him as he drives, Kame becoming neurotic.

He realizes he ought to have put an end to it when he’s the last one left at the afterparty and the staff converses in concerned whispers before calling Jin. By then, it’s already too late

“I am not,” he tells Jin as they stand on the edge of a pier. Jin is slumped against one of those poles that seem to have no purpose other than as a perch for seagulls. The cold night air makes Kame’s penis shrink when he takes it out of his pants. “Drunk in any way. It was just a nice party to celebrate the end of filming. I had to drink. I’m not drunk,” he adds when he stumbles and almost splashes the wood deck. A normal person ought to be devoid of urine by now

Kame loses track of time for a while, but when he comes to, he’s still lying in Jin’s horribly uncool car, bobble-head dolls bumping against his feet. His shirt is undone and Jin’s hands are circled around his waist. Jin is wedged between Kame’s thighs.

“What,” Kame says, “are you doing?”

Jin lifts his head away from Kame’s stomach. “Taking advantage.”

“Oh. Alright.” Kame buries his fingers in Jin’s hair and guides him back to the drawing Jin had been constructing on Kame’s skin with his tongue and delicious warmth. It is probably of elephants with stars for eyes. “Carry on then.”
