PSA for former Fleet Bank Customers

I am a former Fleet Bank customer, and my "Express" checking account was transferred to Bank of America. Monthly fees for this type of account are $5-7, depending on whether you have direct deposit. However, if you switch to a "MyAccess" checking account, there is no difference in services except you pay no monthly fee with direct deposit. ( Read more... )

i noticed that too when i was checking my statement about a week ago.

i was like, "wait, why the heck am i giving them MORE money?"

i believe, that whole acquistion (and everyone i've dealt with since i signed up with baybank 10+ years ago) was a sneaky way for the companies to "steal" money legally from their customers.

Citizen's has a similar thing, called a "Green" checking account, and you must have direct deposit. I can't imagine why somebody wouldn't want direct deposit these days.

also, you can shop around for banks with comparative fee charts on bankrate.com!
