So, when we went to Dean Castle on Thursday, the tour guide took us up to the minstrel's gallery. Now, I've done that tour before, when I went with Stewart's class, and yeah I was a little anxious on the stairs, and a LOT anxious at the big hole down to the dungeon (even though it's grated over) but this time? When we got to the top of the stairs ( Read more... )

WOW, if that is a phobia, it sounds super severe. :o
Almost wonder if you have an inner ear problem. If you get tested I hope you get better results then I did for my "balance" issue.

I almost never go to the doctors. Usually only when I am pregnant or can't breathe.

Hmmm, I also have vertigo of some form. I had my first real recognition of it when I was about 10 and couldn't abseil down a small frame thing that most of my class managed, oddly I just couodn't lean back and trust the rope; climbing onto the edge was ok though.

Usually ok on glass elevators but the glass floor in the tower in Toronto I couldn't get near, horrible, and I have to be very, very sure of railings. I generally stay back from any kind of edge.

So I'm not as bad as you but it all sounds very familiar - similar but more so.

Hmm, hard to know really. Phobia-induced vertigo? I say that cos I can get dizzy etc in places like supermarkets and shopping centres.

As for heights, I only get it when looking UP at tall things - I get all dizzy and disorientated and feel a bit sick. I'm fine with being in high places/looking down though - just get overly cautious rather than any actual dizziness etc. So am not sure what sense that makes, lol.

Am OK on escalators but I used to be scared of them. Lifts, I actually prefer glass ones cos they feel less enclosed. I hate the new lifts in my building cos they don't have even a teeny window! *shudder*

It sorta seems to make sense if it was vertigo induced phobia, like I became phobic coz dur vertigo is horrid, but I dunno. I honestly cannot remember which came first. The first memory I have is of visiting my nan in her high rise flats, and looking out a window (she was pretty high up) and wishing I hadn't.
I even have to not think about the planet being round and the solid ground isn't really solid and OMG do you KNOW how fragile our atmosphere is? Shusht I know that hasn't really got anything to do with hights!
