jsfunction talked about favorite pairings on this year's Ao3 stats of the 100 top pairings (plain text list here), and I wanted to add my 2 cents.

Wow! Is SPN fandom like a juggernaut of Castiel/Dean shippers, or what? I mean, that is like several thousand ahead of any of the others, lol.

SPN fandom is just huge overall. Even Sam/Castiel is in the top 100 and that's a marginal pairing if I ever saw one. The most surprising thing for me is that I am actually shipping a popular pairing for once. All the other popular ones I just kind of accept so I have something to read, but all my real favorite ones don't have a lot of fic.

I have a lot of Het pairings I love but it hardly ever results in the reading and writing of fan fic for me as the canon usually delivers everything I need in that regard. I'm primarily a slasher when it comes to fic because that's what canon doesn't deliver.

Oh, I can never have enough fic to read. I like explicit fic and canon rarely ever delivers that. ;)

Writing is not usually my thing anyway, and with making art, it doesn't matter if canon already provides everything because art doesn't usually add anything 'interesting'. It's just a way to be creative with the characters and doesn't have that fix-it element to it at all.

I usually consider myself more of a passive participant in fandom anyway, so the approach is probably a little different. It happens that I feel very inspired, sometimes, and I'm happy about those times. I have not quite found out when it does and when it doesn't happen yet. Yay more experience in fandom for me. ;D

I totally get what you're saying, it just got me thinking about how in fandom it probably does look like all my favourite OTPs are slash ones... but then while I'm fannish and enthusiastic about a lot of things it hardly ever becomes an active participation thing for me, just like you say. :D

Wow, only one of my fandoms/ships made the list! Of course one of my newest/favorite ships is part of a brand new show, so the fandom is still really small. I think AO3 only has like 11 fics? Or maybe that's on FF. I can't remember.

Ah, interesting. I don't watch any of those shows (except the Librarians, and my flist probably already has enough of my OTP there :D).

But yeah, the pain of small new fandoms. I hear you.
