“That constellation I‘ve aimed at is the axe, from the legends about the woodsman.” Ambrose said knowledgeably. “That one is made up of ten stars, the six in the handle and the four corners of the axe head. This is the best time of year to see it from here; once the harvest season comes, it disappears beyond the line of the horizon. Your astronomy book should explain their movements.”
“There’s so many of them…” Azkadellia marveled as she looked up at the star-filled night sky through Ambrose’s telescope.
“What does that make you think?” Ambrose leaned against the balcony railing beside the princess, looking up at the night sky.
She considered this for a long moment before answering. “That we’re awfully small and insignificant in the universe.” She said thoughtfully.
“Speak for yourself.” Ambrose’s voice sounded cross.
Azkadellia looked at the adviser in wide-eyed surprise and saw that he was battling a grin. Her expression relaxed and she put on a very apologetic face. “I’m sorry, we’re all very small and insignificant besides you.” She amended and looked away, her shoulders shaking.
“Better.” And his head dropped down as he fell to a fit of silent laughter as well.
