Jeb was standing a block away from the gates when they blew, but he was still knocked off his feet by the blast. A long whine filled his ears, sounding like the whine of a radio that was misaligned. Other than that, it was completely silent. Not even in his suit was it ever this quiet. He watched the bits of debris and dust floating down like feathers or leaves in autumn. Suddenly, John Joe Adams appeared in his line of sight. His mouth was moving, but Jeb couldn't hear a word.

The sight of his Resistance colleague brought Jeb back to life. Despite the disorientating deafness, he got to his feet. "Are you ok?" he just managed to hear John Joe over the whine. Jeb nodded and pointed to his ears. "DEAF!"

"What?"

"I said..."

"WHAT?"

"I'M DEAF!" Seeing that John Joe was apparently also suffering, he shook his head and again pointed to his ears.

"OH! ME TOO!" Jeb nodded and surveyed the area. He barely heard the screams and cries of the injured and those who suddenly found that the person next them was suddenly under a pile of debris or worse. Unfortunately, Jeb had other problems to deal with - Longcoats had started to pour through the gates.

Grabbing his weapon he started firing, the sound barely a pop, whenever he had a clear shot, difficult because of the civilians. Fortunately, they were also making life difficult for the Longcoats. One of the women, a red-head, had jumped the nearest Longcoat and bitten his ear off.

Though the surprise had given them the advantage, allowing a few to get past, the unexpected ferocity of the civilians were holding the Longcoats back. Apparently, it was a major fashion faux-pas to be seen without a weapon in Central City. Having quickly gained control of the situation, thanks to the 'volunteers', Jeb allowed himself a millisecond to consider what his father was doing.

Wyatt's first thought when the explosion went off was of his son. Then DG. Then his Tin Man training kicked in. He started to notice that everyone, even boys no older than twelve, were drawing their weapons, though the boys' weapons were purely defensive, small knives, rather than pistols. Living under the shadow of The Dark Tower was bound to create an atmosphere of paranoia and unease. He absorbed this in a matter of seconds before deciding to go to the small command post that Ahamo had set up in the town.

He arrived briskly, even as Ahamo stared at a map of Central City, using pins and stickers to signify enemy positions and 'items of interest'. Azkadellia was by his side but Wyatt was keenly aware that DG wasn't there nor was Glitch or The Queen. Ahamo looked up and acknowledged Cain's presence. "Cain."

"How the hell did they get this close? Tell me things aren't that bad!"

Azkadellia answered. "No. The trial. It attracted a lot of spectators to The City and well, the people here are... a little insular, so a shanty town was set up outside the Walls. Longcoats found it easy to infiltrate it. There are even a few who managed to get inside. There are three gates into The City and three points we have to cut off. They can't scale the walls, they're too steep and sheer. We think they're heading for the prison but they could also be targeting the Royal Family." As if she wasn't a member.

"DG?"

"She refuses to come here," Ahamo sighed. "Insists on helping the fighting. I've a few men to get her..." Cain nodded. Concern for your children is inevitable, but The City had to come first. "The Queen and Ambrose... we've been unable to find them."

"I'll go, sir. I'll get your family."

Ahamo nodded gratefully. "Then we can keep our minds on our task. Thank you, Mr Cain."

"DG!" Wyatt shouted. Despite holding out a vain hope that he might run into his son, Cain had reached her without running into him, indeed, he had only managed to run into a few Resistance members who suggested with great concern that Jeb might have been near one of the gates when it blew. Wyatt refused to believe that, but manage to feel a small sliver of relief when he found the impossible princess.

The princess looked exhausted. He moved up beside her. "I'm fine," she preempted him. "I've got too much to do here."

"Ok, Princess, but, uh, over-reaching yourself could have long lasting consequences. Just look at your mother."

"I'm not a court wooing, genuflecting princess, Cain. I'm hands-on!"

"It's 'curtsying princess', Kid. Ok, you wanna be hands-on? Help me find your mother and Ambrose."

"They're missing?"

"Yes... no one's heard from them. Not since your mother went out to talk to him. We'll start where The Dark Tower used to be and go from there."

"Ok."
