Zero dismounted as soon as he thought they were close enough. Ordering his men to keep a couple of minutes behind him, he started to follow the tracks he found in the thick growth. They were easy to do, as no real attempt had been made to hide them. Occasionally, he'd even manage to spot the distinctive grey hat of Cain. The little troupe also took a fair few breaks though there was little doubt that Cain edged them forward.

A squirrel stared up at him. He looked back down at it. It chittered before giving an almost human shrug and taking off for a nearby tree. Zero was paranoid for a moment before realising that the squirrel headed in the opposite direction from the princess and shapeshifters tended to be dogs anyway.

"Lost your nerve?" Zero jumped. He peered over at the blonde. "Cain's just within arms reach! Here's your opportunity. Get him!" Adora Cain sneered at him. "Aw? Scared of the witch, are we? Your... talents... not good enough?" Zero didn't respond, concerning himself with keeping up. "So long as it's not your conscience," Adora persisted. "Because, too little, too late. I'm certainly not going to forgive you. Doubt my husband will. And my son! Of course, smart money would have had you kill us when shoved him in the suit in the first place! Does that soothe your conscience? Does it? Having me suffer for years, knowing my husband's alive but having to tell my son he's dead? Having me wish I had the strength to march across home, release my husband, be by his side and place him at the head of the Resistance? Having to lie to my son so he won't try to do the same?"

If you had had the strength, you would be alive. Cain would only be mad at me. He would have had the sense not to settle in a cabin just like the old one. Staying in the same place, becoming part of the Resistance? Your own foolishness got you killed!

"Rich, coming from a man who believed what The Sorceress had to tell him! Coming from the man who killed me! Just because..."

You had my sister killed?

"You didn't know that. Anyway, the Viewer said she was alive. It's not in their nature to lie. You know that. Why do think I'm here?"

I wonder if your husband knew that you were an informer. I must admit, the irony appeals to me. He probably would have killed you himself.

"What are you going to do? Tell him? I'm sure he'll believe you."

I don't owe you a thing.
