A puff of smoke spiraled up into the air from his pipe. “I reckon we’re gonna have an empty nest soon,” Travis commented.
“We’ll see,” Isabelle answered, hiding a smile.
“What?” he asked.
Isabelle tossed the clue onto his lap. He studied them with furrowed brows. “Baby booties?” He jumped up. “Now just hold on a second. Who are these for?”
She cupped his face. “Us.” She patted his cheeks. “No blanks in your gun.” She walked inside the cabin.
He smiled, followed her inside, scooped her up, and carried her to their bed.
“Travis?”
“Yes.”
“The door.”
“Ah.”
