Crack!Fic: Living Dead Boy [Lamkey-ish, one-shot, pg-13, CRACK]

Apr 05, 2009 06:48

i....just....i don't even know. this is the product of writing things in the middle of the night/early morning and getting no sleep. and HOLY SHIT it's over 3000 words. *dies*
yes, my icon is very appropriate for this fic

Title: Living Dead Boy
Author: Zach //tinkertoo
Fandom: American Idol Season 8, but VERY AU
Pairing: Adam Lambert/Danny Gokey
Rating: pg-13 for badly mentioned gore and zombies
Prompt: thousandtables Halloween: #8 Zombie
Summary: Adam is a zombie dealing with multiple issues.
Disclaimer: Uhm yeah, pretty sure zombies are fake. And so is this, and I really hope it never happens because Adam is too pretty to actually be a zombie.
A/N: As if the internet didn't need even more proof of my insanity. I wrote this for two reasons: one, because my Halloween prompt table has zombie on it, and two, because i watched the short film Gay Zombie and got a freaking plot bunny on crack. But yeah, I would advise not reading it unless (a) you are high, (b) you just like crack (erm...crack FICS) or (c) all of the above. But do watch the short film, because it's rather funny. Oh, and I quoted it like crazy in the fic, so it's basically fic-form of the film but with Idol peeps.

It wasn’t exactly the life he would’ve chosen for himself. That is, if you could even call this a life. It was more like... an afterlife among the living, where everyone looked at him differently. Well, of course, as if his human life hadn’t been hard enough, being the outcast kid and then the theatre boy, now he had to deal with rotting skin and an appetite for flesh. Oh joy.

See, Adam wasn’t like the others walking among us. Obviously, one look at him would turn people in the opposite direction. But that was the challenge of zombie-hood. It really sucked too, sometimes he wished someone would just put a bullet through his head already, but apparently no one got the memo that that was how you killed his kind.

His therapist said he needed to get out more, meet people and start mingling. She even suggested starting a relationship. As if! Okay, see, it was hard enough getting himself out to the gay bars to meet people as a human, but now? Who would want that?

But the doctor insisted. Said it would help his esteem. And she even seemed to think there could be a guy out there with a taste for the undead. He couldn’t see how, but what could it hurt? As long as he kept that “need for human flesh” thing down while he was out, he’d be fine. Or at least, he hoped he would be.

He immediately regretted it as he entered the bar though. All heads turned on him and either glared or turned away and walked at a rather quick pace in the opposite direction.

Who was he kidding? This would never work, not in a million years. This would never....

His eyes landed on someone across the bar, and all thoughts stopped. His brain actually stopped working for a small moment as a tinge of hope spread through him.

----------

“If you don’t talk to the next guy that comes over here, I swear to God Danny I will personally hurt you. How do you ever expect to meet anyone?”

Danny sighed into his shot glass. Matt was right, as much as he hated to admit it. But how was he supposed to meet anyone? Dorky church singer with glasses wasn’t exactly high on anyone’s want list.

“You know I’m no good at this. And what if the next guy is...”

“I don’t care if the next guy is the fucking living dead, you’re talking to him!” Footsteps approached them and Matt got this look. “Whoever it is, at least say hi.”

Danny sighed again. He really was horrible at this meeting new people thing. His mouth worked before he actually turned around, the “Hi,” coming out automatically. But, as his eyes landed on the person, if that even was a person, they got wider and he spun back around to Matt, a horrified look painted on his face. “He....he.....” he couldn’t even speak. The only thing in his head, only than total horror, was, ’He just had to say living dead, didn’t he?’

“Man, what?” Matt peeked around Danny, then came back with the same look. “Oh my god.”

Danny felt a tap on his shoulder and shuddered. “Just ignore him,” Matt whispered.

“I already said hi!” He jerked his head around, forcing a smile.

“Hi.” The guy’s voice sounded shy and nervous, surprising Danny as he expected terrifying and scary.

He swallowed the lump forming in his throat as he tried to find his voice. “Uh, hi. I’m...uh...I’m Danny. That’s....that’s Matt.” Be nice to him, and maybe he won’t try to eat your brains Danny.

“Adam.” His voice was actually...sweet. Which was another shock. Weren’t zombies supposed to sound....horrible? And like, not even talk but just groan? “It’s....it’s nice to meet you.”

“Uh...yeah...you...you too.”

They kind of looked at each other awkwardly for a minute, before Matt cleared his throat. “Maybe we should get a table,” he whispered urgently, causing Danny to look up and notice the threatening glare they were receiving from the bartender.

“Oh yeah, that’s a good idea....want to join us Adam?” He had no clue why in hell he was inviting a freaking zombie to sit with them, but... well, he seemed nice... and kind of... lonely. Matt gave him a look as Adam nodded and he kind of stormed off, leaving Danny and Adam to follow.

----------

They were laughing, having fun. Who knew that a zombie could actually be fun to hang out with? And even Matt seemed to be enjoying himself, but that could’ve just been the constant shots he’d had.

“Thank you guys so much. You have no idea how much this means to me.” Adam was smiling sweetly as he looked between them, but mainly at Danny.

“It’s no problem.” Danny smiled back, catching his eyes and something inside his head clicked. He wasn’t sure but could this be....

“Uhm, guys, we should REALLY go.” Danny was shook out of his thoughts as he looked to Matt, who was pointing in the other direction. He turned around to see a sort of angry mob forming, all glaring at them, mainly Adam.

“Uh, yeah....let’s get out of here.” Matt jumped up and practically ran for the door. Danny was right behind him, instinctively grabbing Adam’s hand and pulling him with them.

----------

He was nearly ready to burst into laughter in the back seat, but refrained from it because both Matt and Danny looked extremely freaked out still.

“That was insane! .... I’ve not had this much for in so long.”

“Yeah...” Danny gave a nervous laugh, careful to keep his eyes on the road and out of the rearview mirrors, so he could not see Adam’s eyes again and couldn’t get lost in them like he had at the bar. “Just glad we got out of there.”

“I have to thank you two again. No one’s been this nice to me in a long time. Thank you.” He looked in the mirror, trying to catch Danny’s eye, and he did, for a brief second anyway before the other male quickly turned away.

“Yeah, no problem.” Danny smiled, looking into the mirror for the briefest of seconds before he remembered his devotion to keeping his eyes firmly on the road. “So, our place is right up ahead...” Matt looked horrified, but Adam smiled wider.

“Great!”

“Yeah, perfect.”

----------

“Wow, this place is huge!”

“Yeah well, it’s not really ours. We’re both renting off a friend, Nate. He’s...probably around here somewhere.” Actually, this was the first Danny had even thought of Nate, and his stomach sort of turned at the thought. Nate was definitely not going to like this.

“Yeah speaking of... I’ll be in the hot tub. You can deal with him.” Some help Matt was, he quickly ran off to the backyard. Danny sighed and started into the kitchen, Adam following behind him.

“Don’t you want your own place?” Adam questioned as they walked inside.

“What?” What kind of question was that?

“Well, don’t you? I mean, wouldn’t it be better to have your own place instead of renting off someone else?”

“Well....eventually sure. But right now I’m fine here.”

“Why just settle for fine? You should be more than just fine; you should be happy and glad to come home to someplace that’s just...yours.”

“Wow. You’ve thought about that a lot, haven’t you?”

“I’m a zombie, what else do I have to do but think about things like that?”

“Hmm... run around terrorizing everybody and eating their brains?” His tone was just joking, he was quickly getting comfortable around Adam.

He laughed. “Yeah maybe. But that losses it’s touch after a while. It’s not so fun having everyone run scared from you.”

“Oh yeah, that could be pretty tough...” Why was he feeling sorry for a zombie? This was just...insanity. He should change the subject. Like, now. “Uhm...anyway, you coming in the hot tub?”

“I don’t know...”

“Come on, it’ll be fun. There’re spare suits in the bathroom, through those doors.”

He really shouldn’t but...well, what could it hurt? “Okay.” He turned towards the doors, opening them just as they were opened from the other side. He was met with a loud scream, or more like girly shriek, and an ear shattering barking.

“What the hell!?!?” Nate’s voice was loud and high pitched, obviously from fear or shock or terror or some combination. “Who is he?” He pretty much glared at Danny while the poodle in his arms still yapped on.

“Nate, calm down. This is Adam, our friend.” Danny looked to him, apologetic, and mouth an ‘I’m sorry.’ “Erm, bathroom’s right through there.” He pointed the way and Adam walked through, careful not to look at Nate as he passed.

The glare didn’t disappear even as Adam did. “You. Outside. Now.”

Once outside, his glare went between both Danny and Matt, who was leaning back in the hot tub. “Who is that? And what the hell is he doing in my house?”

He looked to Matt first, but he just shook his head. “Talk to Danny, it was his idea.”

He turned his glare on Danny. “Well?”

“He’s....he’s just a friend we met. Adam. He’s really nice and...”

“How the hell can a zombie be nice?” Matt interjected, looking about as shocked as Nate was.

“Zombie? Did I hear him right? Danny what are you thinking?”

“He’s nice! And he’s all alone, he needs us!”

“Okay, one, he’s a zombie! The fucking walking dead Danny, they don’t need friends! And two....” Nate’s eyes got wide as Adam walked back outside. “Holy mother of god, he’s wearing my yellow Speedo!”

Danny’s eyes followed Nate’s and they too got wide at the sight. But it wasn’t the red and dying flesh, or the fact that he could see nearly all of Adam’s bones through his skin. His eyes were fixed on the Speedo and... holy god, Danny took a deep breath, trying to force his eyes away.

Adam was embarrassed; they were all staring at him. Was it his skin? “I’m sorry... I should’ve told you. My skin’s kind of...” But then he noticed, their eyes were somewhere else entirely. “Oh. I’ve uh...always been kind of...” he rushed to cover himself, sort of failing. “I...maybe I’ll just get in the hot tub.” Anything to make them stop staring. He was about to put his foot in the water, but Matt stopped him.

“Uhm, I don’t think that’s such a good idea! You know, the hot water... and rapid infection...and....all that. Maybe you shouldn’t...”

He pulled he foot back, looking into the water. “Oh, right, I hadn’t even thought...right.”

When he looked back up, Nate was eyeing him again. Up and down, before he turned back to Danny and Matt. “You know...there’s hope for this night, and him, yet. Boys, inside. It’s time for...”

“Oh god, please do not say a makeover.” Matt groaned. Just because Nate was the biggest stylist in LA, did he really think he could solve everything with a makeover?

“You got it kiddie.”

----------

Matt and Danny were waiting on the bed, eyes on the door Nate had dragged Adam behind. Matt hated having to be here, while Danny was just hoping this worked out in Adam’s favor, instead of him turning into another one of Nate’s train wrecks.

The door opened, and Adam stepped out in tight jeans and a light colored polo. Both men clapped while he smiled. This was actually kind of fun. He disappeared through the door, and reappeared in a sort of cowboy type suit. He hadn’t wanted to even touch it, but Nate insisted and he was finding out how hard it was to tell that kid no. When he walked through the door, Danny burst into laughter while Matt was trying to restrain himself. He shook his head and disappeared again.

He tried on tons of things, getting a mix of responses. Finally, Nate settled on something that he stated would look “just perfect” on him. He stepped through the door in tight jeans again, and a black shirt with a leather jacket. Danny’s face lit up when he saw him, and Matt just clapped.

Nate walked in behind him, gauging the guys’ reactions before nodding and turning back to Adam. “Okay, now for the hair. You,” he pointed to Matt, who groaned, “help me.”

----------

It felt like they were gone forever, but finally, Nate and Matt walked back through the door, blocking Danny’s view inside.

“Okay, if I do say so myself, this is some of my best work!” Nate moved out of the way, and Adam walked through. Black hair, which had before been a mess, was now styled down, partially over his eyes and partially sticking up. Nate watched the two men, whose eyes kept locking before Danny would stop and look over him again, and smirked. “Let’s leave these two alone.” He pulled Matt back out the door with him.

“Wow,” was all Danny could manage to say.

“...You like it?” His voice sounded unsure, and Danny nodded rapidly.

“Yeah. You look...pretty amazing.” Almost enough to make him forget that Adam was a zombie. Almost.

If he could blush, Adam would have. “Thanks.”

“So um...” Danny started, before the door burst open again.

“Have you seen Peaches?” Nate’s voice was panicky as he spoke, holding up the empty collar that had once been on his poodle. Danny shook his head, looking around the room as if that would solve anything. And Adam looked around as well, feigning confusion, before a small burp left his throat. Oops.

“Don’t think she’s here Nate..” Danny hadn’t noticed, and Nate was too worried to. He ran back out the door, calling the dog’s name as he did. Too bad she wouldn’t answer him.

----------

“You like to sing, right?” Danny was standing in the doorway with Adam, and sort of didn’t want him to leave.

“Used to, but I haven’t in so long...”

“That doesn’t matter. Come with me tomorrow, we have this singing group thing, it’s really fun.”

“I don’t know...”

“Come on, loosen up a bit.”

“....Okay.”

Danny smiled. “Great. I’ll see you then.” Now he wasn’t as sad to see him leave, because he’d get to see him again the next day.

---------

Adam was still a bit nervous about this, especially after the reactions at the club the night before. But he entered the studio with Danny right beside him, and he felt like maybe things would be okay.

Singing group was actually fun, despite all the looks he was getting. Danny was there, supporting him, so that gave him courage. Until... they were doing this dance move thing, and he moved weird, and sort of popped his shoulder out of place, and blood splattered just slightly to his left. The guy standing there looked ready to kill. He yelled random explicatives before storming out of the room, leaving them in shock before the instructor waved it off and continued the session.

Afterwards, Danny and Adam stayed to help clean up.

“I’m sorry about that guy...” Adam did truly look apologetic, but the instructor waved it off.

“Kris? Don’t worry about him. He’s so cocky and full of himself, I’ve wanted to get rid of him for ages. I should be thanking you.”

Just then, they heard a sort of crash outside the room. And then a groaning sound as a hand gripped the doorframe, then another hand beside it. Kris came back into the room, or more like staggered, almost drunkenly, inside, still covered in Adam’s blood.

“Braaaainnnnssss.” He was staggering towards them, arms outstretched like the zombies in all the horror movies.

“Oh no, I think I turned him!” Adam looked worried, and didn’t even know that was possible. But how was he to know, he’d never gotten blood on anyone before.

“What?!” The instructor had kind of jumped behind him. “I thought you just had some condition!”

“Have you ever turned anyone before?” Danny too was behind him, like that would offer some sort of protection.

“No, never. But we have to shoot him in the head, it’s the only way to kill a zombie.”

“But....we just have these song books!”

“It’s the only way.” And then the three of them proceeded to beat Kris with their books, until he started laughing.

“Man you guys are easy to freak out. I was just joking, I’m not actually dead.”

The instructor looked pissed and relieved, and just left.

Kris turned to the two, a sort of nasty look on his face. “What are you supposed to be anyway?”

“I’m a zombie, what does it look like?”

“Like a fag after too much k. Zombies are expressionless, they move slowly and they don’t talk!”

“You’ve been watching too many movies. Zombies are revived after burial and are compelled to do certain acts.”

“Like criminal acts or labor.”

“Well I guess my creator had something else in mind then.”

“Like what, being gay?”

He and Danny exchanged a look. “...Yeah, yeah that’s exactly what she had in mind.”

They turned to leave, before Kris spoke again. “What a waste.”

----------

Danny was half way down the stairs when he realized Adam wasn’t following. He stopped and looked back. “Adam?” With no answer, he reluctantly turned back.

“Adam?” He saw blood dripping through the closed door. He knew he shouldn’t open it, should just walk away, but something forced him to turn the knob. There on the ground was Kris, guts spilled over the floor with Adam nibbling on them, blood dripping down his chin and neck.

Danny screamed and ran out the door, Adam close behind.

“Danny! Danny, wait!” Outside, he grabbed Danny’s arm, stopping him from running away. “Wait, I can change!”

“I liked you Adam! Inspite of everything, I really did!”

“I can control myself. I can change, and we can work out a system...”

“It won’t work...”

“Please, I’ll do anything...”

“I know you will, that’s what scares me. Even if we’d tried this, things would be difficult.”

“But it could work...”

“Oh, only if we’d met sooner...”

“But I’m ready now!” He leaned forward, his blood covered lips almost meeting Danny’s....

And a shot rang through the air. Adam fell to the ground, bullet straight through his head.

Danny, still shaking, turned to see a skinny blonde woman with tattoos holding the gun.

“You....you killed him.”

“It had to be done. You gave him a good send off.”

“You’re a monster! I could’ve loved him!”

“Maybe, in another life.”

“No, I could’ve.”

“There was no future there. You can move on now.”

“You’re right...thank you.”

She smiled. “No, thank you.” She reached up to brush his cheek, and he caught a look of her wrist, where a huge gaping hole was, full of blood.

She was.... He gasped at the realization, but she just walked off.
