Flowers and Food

OMG, you guys! The bulbs I worked so hard to put into the ground last fall are actually sprouting! I'm really surprised! More so than I care to admit: I was convinced I was wasting my time. And it looks like most of the perennials survived the winter too. I was worried about my butterfly bush because it wasn't exactly thriving after I stripped it ( Read more... )

If it weren't for how stressed out I feel at the thought of making dinner for several people and making it look like something out of a cook book, I would be marching around like a Julia Child wannabe. *sighs* I envy you your kitchen blitz!

Aw, thank you! I wasn't really feeling it earlier this week either, but once the ideas started flowing, I got excited again.

It helps that I love experimenting in the kitchen, and also that I can depend on my husband to make the house presentable while I'm cooking. BIG bonus! :)

When I've moved as relatively far away from my friends as I have, I need to lure them down here with something. :)

Yay for the flowers!
It always makes me happy to see the sprouts and new leafs from all kinds of plants and trees appear in spring.

Like Val, I really envy your kitchen skills and enthusiasm for cooking. I cooked dinner for friends on saturday, and while the result was good, it wasn't as spectacular as yours sounds. We started with a vegetable soup and cheese-carrot pastries, then we had a vegetable stew and to finish it off I made chocolate mousse. Like I said; ok, but not sepctacular. Now there's a huge amount of dishes waiting to be washed (can't wait to have a dishwasher in our new house)...

I don't know how I missed this comment... Sorry for not answering sooner!

Cheese-carrot pastries? That sounds really good! Do you have a recipe for those? I think it sounds like a delicious meal, and chocolate mousse is HARD. I've failed many a time and had to sell it as chocolate-mocca mousse, because only coffee can mask the taste of burnt chocolate. :)

And yes, a dishwasher is the actual best appliance to have. Especially when you have guests over. I think ours ran 3-4 times over the course of the day. :)

I'm eagerly awaiting updates on the house hunting! :D

The cooking sounds absolutely delicious and difficult, and I don't have any garden skills either. Just reading it all makes my mind boggle so you're a hero for pulling it off.

I *really* don't have any garden skills, or even much of a taste for it, other than the joy of having pretty flowers in my garden. If they could arrive automatically, I would be all for that. :) But thank you for sticking me on a pedestal for it. It's strangely motivating. :)

The cooking was not difficult at all, but it was delicious, if I do say so myself. :) I guess it's like with everything else, if you've never learned, then it's difficult. I got the basics from my mom - stuff like which tastes compliment each other, and fix-its for when you screw up, and I've taught myself the rest through experimentation and lots of cooking shows. :) But obviously, you need to find it fun to want to try that hard.
