There IS a difference. My father wasn't pleased with our most recent conversation via telephone. He asked me if I was going to church and I told him that we'd gone over that, and he knew I wasn't. He got the saddest tone in his voice and told me that I needed to go so I could get closer to God. To which I replied, "God and I have a fantastic relationship...and that's what it's about. But...
God doesn't care which pair of pants I put on in the morning.
God doesn't care if I go get a new cell phone.
God doesn't care what time I go to bed...or if I stay up all night.
God doesn't care what I have for dinner (as long as it's not my ten year old son I've decided to roast over the grill...that, I believe, He would take offense to).
And God doesn't care who wins the flippin' football game.
My father would argue that.
