GAH!

I've gotten the domain "vampirerelics.com" for serious cheapness and I'm getting free hosting if I can ever get the two linked up. xevokitty is helping me with this and I am forever grateful for her knowledge and skill in this. I feel like a moron. I mean, I know how to use FTP and the importance of ISP addresses, but I just can't seem to get there. ( Read more... )

Tell ya what I'm gonna do... polypolyglot May 27 2010, 14:37:24 UTC
I get the distinct impression that I am a total idiot who needs to be beaten soundly with a computer.

I won't beat you soundly with a computer if you take this ruler from Kink Academy ruler and spank me with it. Please?

Well, you know your printer doesn't type, it prints. You know where your computer's on button is, and can tell if it is plugged in. You know that a flash drive will not increase your computer's processing power or volatile memory. This is a lot further than some people get.

In reality though computer's make everyone look stupid. One of our greatest human assets whether we realize it or not, is our ability to learn or "put pieces together". Computers cannot do this. The rely on a very set pattern of instruction to do anything. If that pattern isn't comprehensive or has flaws, whatever the computer's trying to do has flaws.

It's like trying to give directions to someone who has no concept of what roads or street signs or right or left is until you specifically tell them each time they are to make that movement. It takes a long time to get used to that type of thinking, I know I'm far from being completely indoctrinated myself.

You have the most wonderful gift of making people feel better. Are you sure you shouldn't be a psychiatrist?

I thought about that for semester early in my college career. Then I remembered how much I disliked people in general. I appreciate the compliment though I try to make sense of these things.

Domain registration and hosting are kind of their own weird thing. I used to do that sort of thing for a living, and even though it was a few years ago, i recall a fair number of bits about it. I'd be more than happy to help if you need it, even if it's just questions about stuff. :)

And you're not an idiot. You're a smart lady who just happens to not know the particulars about a very specific thing.

You're so sweet! Thank you very much. I learned a lot on the fly when I worked on the Shriekback.com site in 2000-2005, mainly FTP protocals and all that. xevokitty got me straight on the nameservers and, as soon as that takes hold, I've got Core and will be good to go. I was told by a number of people that it would be wise to get Vampire Relics online in conjunction with having the first book published. I trust and depend on all my pals' advice (and you're one of them); thus, the website confusion.

Hopefully by Sunday VR.com will have some pretty images and tantalising information. :D
