When something is broken.. what would you do?
Would you fix it? Or would you leave it as it is?
My heart was broken. I wanted to fix it but I don't know how to.
I thought.. it could never be fixed.
Until that day... until that day he appeared in my life.
He had the warmest smile. A bright smile as he entered our school, my classroom.
A transferred student. New in the neighbourhood.
Everyone was interested in him, everyone crowded around him during lunch.
I could hear their conversations. He was assigned to sit beside me.
To fill the empty seat that has been unoccupied for months.
He was polite. He was nice as he answered their questions one by one.
The smile never leave his face. He never got annoyed and that intrigued me.
I didn't realise I was staring at him until he turn around and gave me a soft smile, waving as he did so.
I snapped out of my trance and look out of my window, slightly flustered.
We were paired up for assignments. He was new and no one wanted me. Not since my heart was broken.
He was nice to me and I accepted him.
I found out that he's not really good in studies, so I offered to tutor him.
We grew closer. Everyone could see that.
We would do our work together. Eat lunch together. Go home together and arrive in school together.
It's as if we can never be separated.
He comes to my house after school for tutoring and I taught him all I can.
He improved and our teacher came to us smiling, nodding in approval.
She seemed to think that I was a good influence.
So does his mother, because I kept getting invited over for dinner.
I like spending time with him. Time always passes quickly. Faster than usual and it's always filled with happiness.
We would laugh and play together, even during studies.
Before I knew it, he had started to become an important part of my life.
Before I knew it, my heart was healing.
And it was all because of him.
He invited me over again. Not for dinner he said, but for a surprise.
I didn't suspect anything as he ushered me in.
He cooked lunch for me and it was delicious.
I never knew he was such a good cook. When we were done eating, he went back to the kitchen and suddenly the lights were turned off. I looked around frantically until he appeared with a cake, lighted with candles.
He sang me a birthday song as he brought the cake over to me,
I was suprised. Guess I forgot my birthday. I swear never to celebrate it again after he left.
The song ended and he looked at me, his eyes sparkling. I can't help but smile at him and reach out to pinch his cheeks.
He had such soft and chubby cheeks.
I put my hands together and made a wish. I wish that we'll always be together, that he will love me the way I love him.
I blew out the candles and he beamed at me, passing me the knife.
The cake was filled with strawberries.
No surprise on that since he loves strawberries like they're his life.
I cut one slice for him and one for me. I watched as he took a strawberry directly from the cake and popped it into his mouth.
"Umai!"
I smiled, and transferred all mine to him.
"Arigatou~"
He started eating them and I watched as he did so.
His cute facial expressions never fail to amuse me.
Especially when he's eating. It's like eating is his best hobby.
I took a swipe at the cream's cake and put it into my mouth.
Strawberry cream~ I should've known. I laughed as I took another swipe and aimed it at him.
I dabbed it successfully on his nose and he looked up at me, shouting.
"Oi!!"
I laughed and quickly run away as he scooped more cream into his hands and come running after me.
I managed to escape but not for long, it was his house after all.
I was trapped and he was advancing and I had no way to escape.
I could see the evil grin on his face.
“Ryosuke! Yamete yo!"
He shook his head.
"You started it Chii."
"But it's my birthday!"
"I don't care!!"
He took the last step forward and smeared it across my face. Stepping back, he laughed at me, his eyes twinkling.
I love the sound of his laughter, the way he laugh.
I could feel my heart beat increasing.
He pat my head and ruffled my hair, ever so gently as he laughed at me.
I couldn't stop myself. I couldn't resist as I lunge myself at him, hugging him tight.
He was taken by surprise as he took a step back but I could feel his arms around me, hugging me back.
"I love you Ryosuke."
Silence.
It was starting to become awkward, so I pushed myself away from him and opened my mouth to tell him it was a joke.
It never came out, it never needed to.
"I love you too Chii."
He pulled me back into his arms.
"I thought you'll never say it."
"Wha...?"
He silence me with his lips.
His lips, so soft against mine.
I never want to let go.
