I'm being thwarted at every turn. I may have to make the new machine dual Windows and Linux just to be able to run Second Life. Seems the windows emulator hates my version of Linux. The Second Life Linux versions need to be *run* somehow and I haven't figured out how to do that. I have multiple versions of all sorts of things downloaded onto my ( Read more... )

as to the disposal of the computer we were going to give to Pati? You'll have to ask Roh as to the details of its construction/build, it's a custom job that she gave up for an Athlon-based, self-built laptop...

I want it all out of my entryway. It's boxed up and ready to go.

There's a shell script that does all the work for you included in the distributable package. I'd have to reboot into linux to tell you what I did to get it to run, since it's been a while. I recall it was fairly easy to figure out though.

Ok, I rebooted...

In the folder you created before you unarchived the distributable contains a shell script named, oddly enough, 'secondlife'. If it isn't executable, make it so. If it is, you should be able to run it by double-clicking that file in your file browser.

I went one step further and made a launcher for it. The procedure for this depends on the desktop interface you use (Gnome, KDE, etc.).

Yes, I found it and created an icon/launcher for it. I feel like a dinosaur learning squirrel tricks!
