For some reason I had a song stuck in my head.  Well the tune of the song anyway.  Now I'm at the computer, I decided to look up the lyrics just out of morbid curiousity.  Morbid was right!  Jeez.  I found a original version and the childrens version.  And the childrens version is at least twice as morbid as the original!

I learned the full version of this song when I was like, 12, and thought it was terrible. I don't know why people decided some of the worst stories should be sung to children as frikkin lullabies!?!?! Mother Goose, anyone?

There's also that theory about ring-a-ring-o-rosies being about the black plague. Maybe in the bad old days, when child mortality was so high that most kids lost a friend or two before adulthood, people weren't so concerned with hiding the idea of death?

The whole song was so dreadful @_@ I never knew that. “How I missed my Clementine, Till I kissed her little sister, And forgot my Clementine.” And that ending is just horrible! DX
