I feel like LJ is basically dead at this point :( But I still feel the need for an outlet sometimes, and I refuse to jump on the Twitter bandwagon. I know there are a handful of you who still follow this through RSS - I am considering dropping a Wordpress or Tumblr (or some other blogging software) installation into timkeogh.com. Thoughts? Twitter is what you make of it really, it all depends on who's in your network. But it doesn't have to be the vapid experience most people assume it to be

I recommend Tumblr, I have one and it's really easy to administrate, although a self hosted Wordpress is pretty easy too and you control your own data- you just have to remember to keep your install of it updated, which is pretty easy and automatic with recent revisions of the software.

I still read LJ (and occasionally post on it)! I have twitter too, and like the person above said, it's what you make of it. I like it anyway, although it's obviously very different from here.

I'm also a Tumblr fan. I got tired of my self hosted WP install because I just occasionally wanted to write, not administer a whole CMS. But Craig T SoAndSo is right, it's much easier now than when I mostly gave up on it.

obviously i have no direct experience with this, considering i am the last person to join everything (still holding out on facebook because it just makes me angry to think about it), but from what i've heard/seen, tumblr seems to be the best of ALL worlds, as far as being able to post random twitter-like thoughts/various media/the occasional full-blown journal entry. i'm told you can also tell it to update FOR you, in a "here is a folder on my computer, post one file from within that folder every two hours for the next three days" sort of way, though i can't even begin to imagine how that works.
