the golden compass

the catholic league is launching a boycott against 'the golden compass' because it may influence children to question their belief in god.

yeah, religion isn't all about mind control. *rolls eyes*

not specifically catholicism, but christianity in general; can you think of any other religion you have ever seen with ADVERTISING?

it freakin' blows my mind...

Oh, Judaism has a billboard on the SB side of 95 north of Philly. All organized religion is a business these days.

christianity definitely takes the cake for advertising. i haven't been on 95 in ..probably a year. i've seen judaism making appearances in other small places though. and buddhism? i don't think it needs to actively advertise with all these books, health stores, day spas, gift shops, the outburst of yoga and meditation and 6 inch zen gardens, etc.

is there anything that isn't a business these days?

i think there should be a limit on the amount of advertising any organization/store can do. ideally i'd like to see advertising purely up to the consumer seeking it out - television channels of just commercials, magazines consisting of full page ads [isn't that what 'elle' is? or do they try to pass it off as a fasion magazine?], stuff like that.. but eh. i'm still too in touch with reality to know that's not likely.
