I also read a lot of books (no surprise) and watched a lot of American television and only three Asian dramas (yes surprise) and, to judge by my diary, had a lot of feelings about those. I took a semester of Korean (excruciating but also ( Read more... )

happy belated new year - i missed you quite a bit this past year. only 3 asian dramas? that is a surprise. how went the korean btw, aside from excruciating? i've considered taking mandarin this year, mainly so i can learn to read & write, but we'll see if anything comes of it.

ooo. have you been watching emma approved? thoughts!

miss you & i still owe you a very long detail-filled email.

Well, I re-counted and actually there were four: Flower Boy Next Door, King of Dramas, that one jdrama about the time-traveling chef and the cape-swishing warlord, and Answer Me 1997. The Korean was pretty excruciating. During the final review session, I spent the whole time doodling "a murderous intent" in my notebook like a character from a shoujo manga.

I only just discovered Emma Approved the other day and promptly binged. Book!Emma is not my favorite, but I tend to like her more in modern adaptations. I love her and Snarky Knightley and Harriet and Best Dad Ever. I'm watching The Autobiography of Jane Eyre, too, which is of course so very different in tone. It's also giving me the heebie-jeebies, because Rochester is a creepy character for sure and the whole situation is rife with Gothic weirdness and Jane has no friends to point this out to her.

Miss you too, and I owe you an equally long detail-filled email. Or at least a postcard.
