too much exposition

Aug 10, 2010 21:31

Well well well, once again I have totally failed to post anything in almost two weeks. I've been kind of worn out by work and the weather and things. Last week I met up with some dear friends for a picnic followed by Shakespeare on the Common's production of Othello, which was mostly very good except when it was unintentionally funny. I found Iago ( Read more... )

Unintentionally funny like how? *craves examples*

Funnily enough, I also recently finished watching Veronica Mars. I have been told that they had to wrap the season up earlier than they expected so it got a little choppy at the end. Or maybe that was about another series. I choose to believe it applies to this one because that is one of the only ways I can reconcile myself to certain aspects of the 'wha?'

Spoilers ahead, if any comment readers haven't seen and want to.

Now, Veronica has always been more important than anything to her father, but I am extremely dubious on a character level that he would decide that destroying evidence was a productive way to act upon that... Let me gripe that even and if he did, he would be competent and not think that a gigantic magnet would screw up an optical disk. *headdesk*

Yes, I want to read that rant! Please write it?

In the final scene there was randomly a pool in their bedroom, which was then used for rather disturbing drowning purposes, except everybody was distracted by the fact that there was a random pool in the bedroom.

Yep. And while I enjoyed the return to angry!Veronica, I think it was pretty heavily implied that things were going to end up where they were at the beginning of season 1: Veronica and father contra mundum. (Except she at least has friends now.)

I feel like I've seen at least one cinematic Shakespeare adaptation with a pool in a sleeping room. Maybe the Branaugh Othello? Maybe one of the Venetian plays?

Smothering was too gentle, I take it? Eh.

Where do you stand on the Logan question? I think he's a character with a great deal of chewy dramatic potential, played by a talented actor, but I never drank the kool-aid on the Logan/Veronica relationship. I wish the writers had found other interesting things to do with him instead. Particularly in the third season, when he's a major player in the trope of "Veronica gets in trouble and a big strong male has to rescue her" that recurs with even more nauseating frequency.

Oh Logan. I agree that he's a fantastic character with lots of dramatic potential, and I too wish he'd had more interesting things to do in season 3 than rescue Veronica (Seriously, Veronica? Somebody's been slipping people drugs in their drinks and you leave your Coke unattended and then drink from it? SERIOUSLY?!?!?! WHERE IS MY PARANOID VERONICA, I WANT HER BACK.) Although watching him get schooled by an eleven-year-old in that one episode was hilarious. It's a sad day when Dick Casablancas is the one with the more interesting personal issues.

I've been chugging the LoVe kool-aid for a while now, though. I can see why they're not, ultimately, a functional couple--neither of them can change enough to make the relationship work--and their dynamic is most interesting when they're conflicted about each other or downright enemies. But I love them together. *sob* Oh Logan, there never was a sweeter psychotic jackass than you.
