Poor Ianto, that was a foolish thing to do but I guess grief, despair and guilt, combined with the date, pushed him to try someting he probably wouldn't have tried otherwise. He just had a weak moment and everything got on top of him. He's usually stronger than that.

It was foolish (but he is strong - he beat the weevil!)
He will get over it, it just takes time and he wasn't thinking straight with it being Lisa's birthday.
Jack, Tosh, and even Owen (and possibly Gwen, I suppose) will be there for him.
