Hi, Kate! Welcome to the addiction!
Happy bead day! I actually thought to myself this morning if Mardi Gras or Guy Fawkes Day was your second favorite. I couldn't remember. Thanks for clearing that up.

WoW does that, but really there are worse things you can get addicted to.

Your album list is full of win, there're a couple of things on that list that I considered for my own, and a couple I should've.

I was a late-adopter on #3, appreciating it only after I had fallen in love with Kid A. #12 was one that I didn't fully appreciate until about 12 years later. #17 should have been on my list, it's a dreadful oversight that I didn't include it. #23 Also deserves to be on my list because it exposed me to some of my long-time favorite acts.

It's fascinating to me that by viewing this list I'm able to sense your musical journey... and that's a kind of cultural link for me that signifies a sort of shared experience. Reading your list makes me feel as though I know you a little better. I wonder if that's true for our generation or for people in general, or if it's only true for those who have had similar experiences; if there's a common ground required in order to have that association. I should write a thing on this, maybe I will ( ... )

Hee. Well you have excellent taste in music too, sir. And you are not too shabby yourself in the coolness department.

I think that the whole "I know you better after knowing your musics" really doesn't come down to generation or shared experience. I think it's a music junkie thing. Like if you're really into music, then you will relate more to people on that basis. I can talk to my parents about their albums in much the same way. It's in fact one of my favorite things to do with just about anyone. Of course, one must be careful, lest the pretentiousness creep into it.

But then again, I grew up in a house where music was on all-the-time. No lie. And back in the 80s, we used to watch the MTV video countdown on friday nights as a family. So I might be weird/skewed a bit. But music is life. All the rest is just stuff to go along with the soundtrack.
