By the time they finally reached Iifa, Shelke was pretty much on her last legs, and was being carried by Tifa. She'd tried to walk the whole way, stubbornly insisting that she could make it, but as they went on she became more and more dependant on the others simply to keep moving on. In the end she had wound up with an arm hooked around Tifa, leaning into the other heavily, her eyes mostly closed, not even entirely aware of what was going on. She hadn't even really noticed when Tifa had picked her up ( ... )

Denzel had also been stubbornly trying to make it on his own two feet, but after that last attack he was simply too exhausted and in too much pain to move. He had been drifting in and out of sleep as Cloud carried him, but he awoke as he felt another wave of attack washing over him. He clung to Cloud as his small body trembled and writhed in pain, a soft cry escaping him. The attacks were getting worse and more frequent. Black oozed from his forehead onto Cloud's shoulder.

As the pain passed Denzel wiped at his eyes, looking around at their surrounding, blinking a little. "Are we nearly there?"

Truth be told he was petrified. The Lifestream. Mako. All of it. Hadn't it made Cloud sick twice? What if it couldn't cure him or Shelke? What would happen to them then?

Shelke felt light and fragile in Tifa's arms. It was no burden to carry her at all - at least not physically. But every time Tifa glanced down at Shelke's pale face, she felt ill. Both children were on their last legs.

If this didn't work, they would die. It was a bleak prospect.

"Yes," Tifa replied, as they entered Guadosalam. "We're here."

She had talked to Maester Seymour about visiting this place, but they hadn't exactly been able to arrange a particular date. Tifa looked around at the strange city in wonder. They'd have to ask around for directions to the Lifestream.

Eiko sort of sighed. Her new friends were dying and they were coming to just look at the Iifa Tree. There was nothing here worth seeing, except for Guadosalam and maybe the Farplane. The prospect of coming out here for nothing but to let the kids die was so wretched, Eiko didn't even have the heart to ask if they could go to Madain Sari.

It was pretty sad that the only way she'd get to see Shelke or Denzel was by visiting the Farplane again, and the child willed herself not to cry. She wouldn't. She was too grown up. But that didn't stop her from sniffling.

"This is it," Eiko confirmed. "The only other thing here is the path that goes down to the bottom of the tree. The Farplane's there too, but that's from Seymour's world."
