Characters: Rydia (wandering into Ceodore, then Kain) Progress: On-going Summary: In-progress Location: Troia, around the castle and town Date: October, 1804 Warnings: Nah
Kain was seated right near the large window and staring out, a place he so often was lately. Despite it being a somewhat cool fall day, that window was currently wide open. At the moment, Zephyr was out getting some much needed flight and Kain was watching her as she soared gracefully through the air.
He glanced over on hearing Rydia. Mostly, he still wondered why she would want anything to do with him right now. "If you want..."
"Whatever does happen, keep that sky phone handy. This is no time to be a hertmi, Kain. We might gain information worth passing on to you, so keep that in mind, alright?" Fair was fair. If he expected her not to have a fit about him joining the fight, then the dragoon couldn't cut himself off from them anymore.
"As long as you'll treat me no differently than usual, despite... the current situation." Kain was still clinging to his intense pride, even though he was stuck with no means to get around readily on his own. He sighed a little... because despite all of that stubbornness, he couldn't run away to the mountains like he'd constantly been threatening. He could find ways around the limitations placed on him, but not completely. "...but if you really must know, I'll have my phone with me."
"Of course I won't." Rydia knew that doing so would alienate Kain and while she didn't always treat his feelings with kid gloves, at the moment she needed him to listen to her. If he turned away from that, who knew what trouble he would get into without her to help. "And...good. I doubt it will be long before we find out more information...hopefully before something similar to that Lindblum incident happens."
That was good to hear. The last thing Kain would have been able to tolerate was them acting like he was useless- he certainly wasn't. Although even he had had his doubts, and still did sometimes. He hated not being able to just get up and walk somewhere. "...I hope so as well, but I have a terrible feeling that more disasters will fall upon us before they're stopped for good."
Rydia crosses her arms, shaking her head. "You're probably right, but that doesn't mean we'll just let them happen. Just focus on what can be done, Kain. Dwelling on what we can't fix won't help anyone."
Kain slowly nodded. "I'm trying. At least, now I am once again." He'd been in no state to even attempt trying when he'd first revived, but gradually he was realizing that he had to keep on struggling even when things were at their darkest. "A Highwind doesn't back away from a challenge, nor does any man of Baron. I'll keep doing what I can. I owe it to everyone..." Including himself. He'd never fully stop dwelling or ever quite feel like he'd earned redemption, but he could gain a little peace of mind if he succeeded against the Lucavi.
That brought out a smile. Rydia suspected that some part of him would always feel guilty about what he'd done, but as long as he was actually trying to focus on the present and not wallow, she could let that go. It was important for his sake as well as theirs. "That's what I like to hear. You owe it to yourself, too."
"I'm all too aware of that. I've fallen farther this time than I thought possible... but I'll repent for all of it. That's all I can do." Kain knew that the darkness was still there inside him. He could still feel it. Even with his resolve starting to strengthen, there was still the potential in him to do great evil. Just as much as there was always the potential for good, even at the times when he was overcome with madness.
The summoner drew closer at that and rested a hand on his shoulder. "If it helps...I think you will." Granted, it wouldn't be easy by any stretch, but she knew how stubborn Kain could be. One way or another, he would find redemption.
Kain continued to watch Zephyr's flight. He hoped so, he sincerely hoped that Rydia was right and that he could repair the damage he'd done. But what ended up coming out instead was... "I just... want to get back up there." With a gesture out toward the sky.
He glanced over on hearing Rydia. Mostly, he still wondered why she would want anything to do with him right now. "If you want..."
