I think I'm going to order Dispatches from the Edge from Amazon. I usually order books in threes, so I need to find two other books to get excited about. Any good books out there any of you guys can recommend ( Read more... )

If you haven't read Kurt Vonnegut, I'd say go for pretty much anything he's written, especially 'Slaughterhouse Five'.

Good luck on the application, I don't doubt you'll have them vowed and offering you pretty things once you rock up there. ;)

Kurt Vonnegut

You know, I yet have to read anything by him. I have heard so many great things about him, I might just order one of his books in my next Amazon order. :)

As far as the application, I don't want to put my hopes up. Getting into the UN as an interpreter is an extreeeeeeeeeeeemely hard feat. But, thanks for the encouragement. Please keep your fingers crossed for me. ;P

Anything by Jonathan Safran Foer, Michael Chabon, or Jeffrey Eugenides. For serious.

Kurt Vonnegut is actually my favorite author, so I'd second that recommendation. I'd even go so far as to specify: "Cat's Cradle" or "Sirens of Titan." Also "Saturday," which I recently gushed about in my own journal :-p Though I'll be happy to lend that to you when you come to visit, so no need to buy it.

And UN interpreter? Go for it! That'd be awesome :-) And you could live in NJ instead of NY, but the commute might get to you.

You know, I have been wondering about Saturday ever since you mentioned it the other day. I am so intrigued I will probably take you up on your offer when I meet you up in the city. :)

Wouldn't it be cool to get the job? Anything to keep me off the phone would be a blessing... But, yeah, NJ would be the only option if somehow I manage to drag P up there. *sigh!* A girl can dream...
