Weird question, friend, especially since I haven't posted in lj in ages, but I was wondering if you'd ever take a med student on to observe for a day or two. I'm having a hard time setting it up with the midwives where I live, but my school has given me their blessing to go check it out.

yes! i think the issue is finding someone to take you. my friend pete is doing fam med residency, and he spent one day a week for a month with a midwifery clinic downtown to observe and see what appointments are like. he couldn't believe they spent a full 30 min talking about GBS!

Yes, that definitely seems to be the problem. The midwifery organisation I contacted seemed happy to have me come in for an info session, but I think I could learn a lot more if I could actually follow someone around for a day or two.

contact a midwifery clinic directly and inquire as to whether you could shadow someone for an afternoon or two, that is how my fam med friend set his up.
