Feb 28, 2013 21:27

Over the past two weeks, I’ve begun sending out advance reviewer copies of Clockwork Phoenix 4. As it shakes out, Lois Tilton of Locus Online ends up having the first word on my Kickstarted anthology, turning around a review more or less immediately (click here to go read.)

She notes that this is her first-ever crack at one of the Clockwork PhoenixRead more... )

Would review if you send-- on my blog, or I could ask if SH are interested if you haven't already sent them one. No guarantees there, though.

Hee! I queried Strange Horizons to request a review as their guidelines instruct, got no answer at all - which is what usually happens - so have not sent anything there.

I'm happy to send: I can provide PDF or trade paperback. What's your poison?

Ha! Well, I've only got four left, if that's any consolation.

Yeah, when I saw the remark on putti, I was like, I would have caught that! If she'd gotten a **corrected** proof, that wouldn't have been there! But anyway, yeah, great to have such an early--and positive--review!

Yeah, I told her it was an ARC, so I did think that was a bit odd, but oh well. On the other hand, she misspelled the name of the main character in Yukimi's story. Glass houses and all, hee.

It's hard for me to get too worked up at the odd snark or misinterpretation when she clearly liked the book a lot overall.

And while I totally agreed with her about Nicole's story (which is *awesome*), I very much disagreed with her about Yukimi's. I loved the tone in that one.

Her summation of it at the end makes me wonder if she, um, missed something? A very major something? Hee. And that's not the only summation where I feel that way. But of course she's right when she praises and wrong when she doesn't, eh? ;-p

(But, yeah, I'm a bit biased, but in my opinion the pieces she dismissed with a handwave are all packed with astonishing stuff. Which of course is why I bought 'em. But there will be other reviewers, other eyes. This is just the first. And one of the toughest, so whew!)
