Another nice write-up. I've just completed a S1 rewatch (my daughter and I are trying to cram all four seasons in before we watch the new Christmas day episode. Yes, you may call us mad!) Something I noticed for the first time in BW was a mention of Torchwood--it's one of the questions asked by the Ann Droid. I think it is possibly the first mention in the series of said institute. It really caught me off guard when I heard it.
Something else that struck me when watching this episode is that Nine is still very much the Oncoming Storm. When he thinks Rose is dead, it's as if he has reverted back to the angry, reckless Time Lord we met in "Rose". If Rose had really been dead, or if he was not assured that she was far away and safe, I think he would have definitely used the Delta Wave to destroy the Emperor and the Daleks, regardless of the consequences.
Still one of my favorite episodes, topped only by the magnificence that is TPoTW.
