Ok, thought I would give it a shot.

Prompt: ambivalence

How could one person, alien or human hold such contradicting feelings? He sat in the control room, the green/blue glow of the time rotor the only light at this time of night. The TARDIS was resting in the endless space-time eddies that he travelled. In this time, when he should be resting or fixing, all his thoughts and feelings rested on the young human down the hall.
Feelings of such love, that his hearts hurt with the strength of it, as if they were swelling in his chest, suffocating him. The love of this one human girl who would have given her life to save his.
But slowly like poison the other feeling would make it’s self known. Hate so intense his brown eyes became black storms. She had given up on him, thought him not the real Doctor. How could she think that? He had change right in front of her.
But then the love would return once more. He was being unfair. Even if she had doubted, she had stayed, protected him.

With a sigh he rose from the chair beside the console and walked into the depths of the TARDIS. Such ambivalence tore through his hearts without mercy, one moment they beat with warmth, the next they pained like cut by glass. His emotions were fragile…was that the new kind of man he was? Fragile? No, he was not that…then maybe he was unforgiving? Could that be the reason for these feelings? The echo of the love his previous self felt for her, fighting with the new emotion that was him?

Before he realised he was at her door, looking upon her slumbering form, she mumbles in her sleep turning to face the doorway. Was she filled with these same emotions? The same ambivalence? Could he throw her away because of what she had done?

No, because she was a mirror to him, he realised this now, if he was the man he thought he was, one who would not forgive failure, no second chances. Then she would be his compassion. She would be his balance.
As was the thing with ambivalence, they were opposites, but yet, totally the same.
