Mr. DeKay’s castmates say it was clear from the start that he was leading man material. Yet they
recall he was also devilishly funny with a refreshing and self-deprecating sense of humor. Onstage, he
was quite adept at playing the dashing young gallant who didn’t have a lot upstairs. Of course, that was
just acting. And although he was very funny, he took his craft very seriously, and worked exceedingly
hard to perfect it.
When he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1985, he still planned
for a career in business or law. It soon became clear, though, that the theater was his true calling. After
taking a few courses in directing at Syracuse University, Mr. DeKay headed to Rutgers University
where he earned a master’s degree in fine arts, and also had the very good fortune to meet his wife,
actress Elisa Taylor.
Now a lifetime member of the Actors Studio, Mr. DeKay has taught as an adjunct professor at the
University of Southern California, and appeared on numerous top-rated TV shows such as CSI: Crime
Scene Investigation, Scubs, Friends and Party of Five. Like his current alter ego, no-nonsense federal
agent Peter Burke of the USA network’s White Collar, Mr. DeKay earned the professional success he’s
enjoyed through talent, perseverance and hard work.
