That occurred to me, as well - and does S stand for Slytherin, or Snape, or Sirius, or...?

Is this the missing thing from the cave - ie one of the horcruxes?

I believe it's another horcrux that belonged to Slytherin =)

Yes, but I think it might be the one that Dumbledore and Harry went for in Book 6, but which had been taken by Regulus Black....

The other scene (US cover) seems to show an arena sort of place - is this the place where Sirius went through the veil thing?

If Harry is the last horcrux, then perhaps he has to go through the veil - suitably armed with something that can bring him back - look for Sirius, and then return, having removed the last horcrux and thus kill voldie forever....

That would be a nice ending :-)
