Looking ahead

So, in these uncertain times and at a point where I seemed to have worked (literally) through departmental support, I'm hoping to pick up a few academic crumbs (and health insurance) next year by teaching a couple of undergraduate reading or writing seminars. The department asked for a list of proposed courses and I offer them up for your amusement ( Read more... )

The drinking and temperance class would be fun to teach. Students would probably get a kick out of Rorabaugh's "Alcoholic Republic." I love showing temperance imagery in my Progressivism and Prohibition lectures.

When I taught an upper-division class on the Gilded Age and Progressive Era I had the students write mini-research paper. They found a bunch of interesting topics (one wrote on turn-of-the-century auto racing; another looked at outlaws out West).
