More regarding Yuhiden

vanilla_ichigo reminded me of Yuhiden playright Suemitsu's interview (I'm guessing on the pronunciation of his name) posted at Enterstage. He makes it clear that the main inspiration for Hinata and Kairi are Izanami and Izanagi. However, there's more to it then that. I had previously only been able to scan it on mobile briefly so I had overlooked a lot.

Yes, the writer´s name is Suemitsu Kenichi. In his opinion are the stories about 'Susanoo-no-Mikoto' and 'Yamato Takeru', especially in Kabuki, so overdone, that he wanted to avoid them in any way ( ... )

You should have just said all that to start! You said it very well.

I think the Koutoko comparison is one that would only possibly relevant at the end, as Kairi has made allies of those who were once his enemies. I wouldn't say that the Taiko reforms were meant to build a dictatorship, since the modern idea of dictatorship didn't exist back then. However, they were certainly meant to recreate in Japan the same imperial system as existed in China, which was at the time considered to be the exemplar of order and civilization.

But as you have done a good job pointing out, it's not really relevant to the author's intent.
