I have Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, hypermobile variant, which effects my hands and feet particularly. So, to deal with this, I wear orthotic shoes (not good looking) and silver ring splints. The ring splints look fantastic, but keeping the thumb splints on presents a problem.

I use elastic to keep my thumb splints on, since I didn't like the idea of ( Read more... )

Ohh, I used to know a person who also had this syndrome. Symptoms look so scary sometimes :( whether wearing these does not bother you in everyday life? It must be tiring...

I like wearing the ring splints. They are pretty, aren't uncomfortable, and I really can't use my hands without them. With them, my hands are almost like anyone else's.

It's the shoes that get tiresome. Having to choose clothes based on the kind of footwear I must wear, instead of the kind of fashion I find appealing, actually leaves me feeling very sad about my wardrobe. If I get an outfit I like, it is completely undone by the shoes being wrong. But going without the shoes is far too painful and incapacitating, so I have to just suck it up.

I wore orthopedic shoes when I was a kid~ (back then, most of the children went to corrective exercises, huh). Feel that now is bigger possibility of selecting clothes to them.. perhaps is a matter of deeper searching for nice clothes? :) You can definitely find something suits you, not all have to wear according to the trends in fashion. You can find something interesting in a completely different style, even if it results from compulsion of wearing those shoes *hug*

I can find things that go with the shoes, true, but not things that go with me, at least not easily. And I dislike always looking like I am making a statement at more formal events. I'd like to be able to wear heels when it is appropriate to wear them, and to wear the clothes that go with the appropriate shoes. It becomes tiresome to have people misread who you are essentially based on your shoes. I guess that sounds weird, but it's a weird world where people pay a lot more attention to shoes than anyone is usually willing to admit.

I at least have a couple pairs of mary janes now. For several years, no matter what I clothes I wore, my only shoe option was athletic shoes. It really does begin to weigh on you, even if you try to pretend that you are OK with it.

It's so superficial to say this, but they ARE pretty.
It's times like these I remember that science/medicine still have far to go.
