Amanda Grayson makes me curious, because (A) she's proof that humans can live on Vulcan despite higher gravity (I think?) and some other factors, and (B) that Vulcans have the ability to fall in love with humans. I think.
As far as I can remember Vulcan's got a higher gravity and thinner atmosphere than Earth, so I imagine a human would find it slightly more, huh, cumbersome to live there, but they are pretty up to date on technology so I don't know if you can combat those conditions through weekly hyposprays or something.
As for Vulcan love life, isn't it so that Vulcans experience the same emotions that humans do, but they keep them repressed due to certain cultural and biological reasons? I might misremember. The fact that Sarek fell in love with and married a human is treated as slightly scandalous but doesn't hurt his political career, so I guess even the species barrier isn't unbreakable (or are they more like different races? They conceived a child after all. Trek biology is weird).
Bah, it's sadly been too long since I was on my last Trek binge, I should see to that.
If you do indulge in a Trek binge, you should see Star Trek XI too, unless you've already seen it. Granted, they have Winona Ryder as Amanda Grayson, but there's one point where Sarek and Spock are talking, and Sarek tells Spock why he really married Amanda, and it was really sweet, even if they're in the middle of Tragedy and Drama at the moment.
I try to pretend it didn't got like that, but in fact it was Star Trek XI that got me interested in TOS. But then when I saw the movie again it didn't hold a candle to the original stuff - though I thought it had some nice things going for it, like that scene between Sarek and Spock, and Karl Urban!Bones was fun.
That's one of the things I've been enjoying when I dip into Star Trek XI fic -- in the stories I'd been reading, Amanda Grayson was frequently a major character and it's lovely to see so much of her.
