In which I suddenly want to study Hebrew

No, I have no "legitimate" reason to study Hebrew; it's just my linguistic curiosity and admiration. I can only hope this doesn't end just as badly as my adventures with other foreign languages of no practical use to me.

You're learning a third alphabet? Wow.

A fourth alphabet... but now I'm beginning to wonder just how well I remember how to hand-write in Greek. I'm afraid a revision of the hand-written version of that alphabet is in order.

Hebrew does sound lovely, but I wish its alphabet-and-spelling system wasn't frozen in some ancient period when the scribes were just beginning to figure out how to record the vowel sounds, with very messy initial results.
