I didn't see any swifts in the sky today, and I wonder if they are gone, or I looked at the sky at the wrong times (I din't mange to go out before dark, so I only looked through the windows). They go so silent in October that one has to actively look for them.

It's been much warmer than normal (often 85f/29c) for most of October - and other than remnants of Hurricane Matthew some weeks ago, completely dry.
I saw some "One year ago" today pictures on FB and noticed the trees were either full of colour or had completely lost their leaves by this time last year. We're still mostly green although it was starting to change as of this weekend. There were even a few white blossoms here and there in the crepe myrtle tree in my front yard! Unbelievable!

So our trees are braver - or more cold-resistant? All those cold days in October didn't seem to make things much different than they were last year.
