That awkward moment...

... when a printed picture of Blue Q's Grow Up Gay magnet gets presented on a Bulgarian TV as evidence that the Americans and "Europeans" teach the children to be gay. In full seriousness. By these same lovely people trying to criminalize "public demonstrations of homosexual orientation" whose bill didn't pass in its first reading this last ( Read more... )

I've already read that. D. *sigh*

By the way, there are scary Russian videos about Big Bad Europe where the children learn how to be gay and whatnot in the kindergarten with very good Bulgarian subtitles now.

I did not know about that company or product before, but it's just a joke product. If you click on the company "Blue Q," look what comes up on amazon:

- a baggie with writing "Weed money" (aka money for marijuana)
- cat butt magnet set
- a baggie with writing "Be nice or leave"
- a baggie with "Ice cream money"
- "Guitars of the Gods" magnet set
- a box with "Random Crap"
- or how about the "drug dealer's magnet set?"
- "Festival of Carbs magnet set"

This is just a company that is selling joke gifts for adults.

I'd already seen the drug dealer set, and had some fun posting a link to it in the comments to a Bulgarian newspaper article about this same TV "dispute" (see if you can make any sense of the article; I expect the average native speaker of Russian to understand about half of the words in a written Bulgarian text):

I wonder if those "nationalist" people themselves don't understand that it's a joke product, or just lie about it because they don't expect the TV audience to specially search for it (I guess it's not so easy when you just briefly see a picture on the TV screen even if you understand English and have Internet access).

I think I understood the article pretty well, but the comments were out of my reach :0)

A visit to the web site for Blue Q give some insight into how irreverent they really are. All their products have a hip edgy feeling using taboos to be trendy. http://www.blueq.com/ There is a Drug Dealer set and a DIY Porn Set as well. Don't forget the DIY Vasectomy Kit or the Face Lift Kit. These are all magnets for the refridgerator ( ... )

The lady in red on the right and the gentleman next to her are "nationalists" (kinda-sorta Nazis with local colour and some very leftist populism thrown into the mix). Homophobia is part of their party line, and right now their are desperate for electorate because their leader has managed to discredit himself in too many ways to describe here ( ... )
