Mar 27, 2010 02:04

I’ve translated for you some excerpts from the Position of the Ombudsman of the Republic of Bulgaria on the Prohibition of “public demonstration and expression of sexual or other orientation”, envisaged in Art. 14 of the Regulation on Public Order in Pazardzhik Municipality (it’s an 11-page pdf file).

I know it may look boring, but in case you don’t ( Read more... )

This was not boring at all, but informative and moving. I was brought to tears. There is some sanity, compassion, and reason above the hurtful chaos after all. Here's to things eventually getting better in Bulgaria (and everywhere else, for that matter), though it will take a lot of time...

I already found some attacks to the Ombudsman in the comments to a (way too brief) online news article about what he did, and another comment that "They shouldn't make parades and suchlike in public places" (it's scandalous, you know), and even worse. I quoted The Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union at them, in Bulgarian, including the anti-discriminatory Art. 21 that says "sexual orientation". I'm very grateful to the Ombudsman for this new weapon.
