Nothing teaches a kid about teamwork and community the way theater does. People think that's what youth sports is about, but there's really no comparison.

Sports are great, don't get me wrong - but not everyone gets to play. Would anyone really miss that third-stringer sitting on the bench game after game, if he didn't show up one day? Even some ( Read more... )

As a guy who can't really afford to work so hard for free and yet can't ever manage to stay out of community theater very long.

This is absolutely God's own truth.... People backstage and in the tech Booth or at least as important as the actors.....anyone who's on stage has to react, react, react just as if they're the lead actor because otherwise the whole thing just looks false.

So true! Without all the support staff, theater as we know it would just collapse. (Unless you’re Patrick Stewart, playing all the roles in A Christmas Carol, lol)

Oh, this is absolutely a perfect example for this topic... one I can't believe I hadn't thought of, considering how much theater I've done... it's just sadly been so long. Great take! <3

Yup yup yup. I don't know that this is why I prefer theatre to sports, but I definitely have a lot more appreciation for everything that goes into it.

And I've been an extra in a film. I still felt involved and part of the whole thing. And the director has treated me like family.
