After the first few, I stopped telling my family when I had a new job. I was just opening the door to ridicule, and I was getting enough of that from myself.

I had a simple plan for my post-grad life: get a job in my field, be outstanding, receive promotions, live happily ever after. It didn't work out quite that way.

You went through an awful lot to wind up where you should be. I'm glad you found your spot in life. It's funny, when we graduate from college knowing what we want to do/be, it so often does not work out that way, and happiness lies in a different direction.

How interesting that you wound up in math after trying to avoid it for so long!

Tax preparation is a slightly different type of math than algebra or geometry or theoretical math. Maybe what you really have a knack for is number-crunching and following instructions and recognizing exceptions?
