Must admit I'm traumatized at the thought of fewer of your scripts on House. But I'm pleased for you and will happily anticipate your future projects.
As for last night's episode: That was spectacularly good television. Visually, artistically, emotionally, conceptually rich and rewarding -- it felt like every corner of my brain was getting lit up in the most wonderfully exciting ways. I knew to expect something good when I saw your name in the opening credits, but this was amazing. Thanks for that.
Coming out of the woodwork here, as this is the first House-related post of yours that I've read in real-time as it were, to say that whilst your writing will be sorely missed on-show, it is heartening to hear that you are not entirely able to leave the show and you will still be influencing a wee bit as a consultant producer. It is really interesting to see stuff that we never even consider as non-insiders, like the length and number of scenes and how they are restricted, and I'd like to say that The Long Scene did not seem too long to this viewer and that sometimes, a break from the norm is what keeps it interesting. I hope that this willingness to do what is needed for the story is an influence we will still be able to see from you throughout this series

I loved the flow of the narration in that episode... and I must admit, I hadn't noticed at all that the central scene was any longer than usual... I guess that the true rule is secretly to keep that typical slack-jawed look on the audience, and fast scenes are the trick to achieve it; but as you say, another is to have rally really ridiculously good actors doing their thing. Probably the same reason why Waiting for Godot is so wonderful if done perfectly, and an absolute nightmare if it falls even a little short of perfection.
I just wanted to tell you I've loved last night's episode, and it was probably one of the few that I'd happily re-watch this season. I adored the narative technique you've chosen and what has astonished me the most is that the episode, that recounted about a whole week, seemed so short! When the credits started to roll on I thought 'it's been 42 minutes already!?'. And the three and a half minutes were intense and beautifully involving...there was a deafening SILENCE while they talked...
About the 'shippification of television' you've mentioned...well, that's what keeps most people hooked up. So I wouldn't underestimate it. Fans (shippers) should not be offended or mocked, and some episodes just do that. (I'm not talking exclusively about House, but the tv-system in general). I wish next season will be more honest towards fans. No more tricks or false hopes.
I'm sorry, but I did chuckle at your comment about hatemail regarding Lucas! ;) I hate his guts, but I'm sorry to hear that some fans are taking it out on you.
