gmail threads

my roommate mike keeps in touch wit hhis high school friends on gmail group emails and they keep hitting 'reply all.' the max number of emails in a thread is 100 and then it resets and the old chains are in the inbox or archive. he has like 50+ of these 100 email chains! seems easier to search for posts, etc.
